December News From TriColumbia
Greetings!
What a great year 2012 has been! TriColumbia congratulates all those who participated in events over the last year. You've embraced the multisport lifestyle and committed to striving for a healthier and fitter you! We are excited to look ahead to race season 2013 with a full offering of race options to fit every athlete. Registration opens on Monday December 3, 2012 at 9 AM for the Celebrating Heroes Triathlon - an inspirational sprint triathlon celebrating the birth of our nation's independence, and applauding the spirit of the American Hero. TriColumbia salutes the many heroes that make our nation great; from wounded warriors, rescue workers and first responders to everyday unsung heroes who go out of their way to selflessly lend a hand to provide hope and help to those in need. Join us and celebrate YOUR hero! There are still a few race slots available in the following events. But don't delay, they're going fast and will be gone soon! - 2013 EnduraFit Ironman 70.3 EagleMan Triathlon - the ONLY Ironman 70.3 event in the continental United States that has Ironman World Championship Kona slots; 30 of them! There are also 40 Ironman 70.3 Championship slots up for grabs!
- The Columbia Triathlon - Our signature event, a staple of pros and amateurs alike in the Mid-Atlantic for 30 years, and a 5150 Qualifier
- The Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon (named the "Best Women's Event" in the Mid-Atlantic by Competitor Magazine) and the Iron Girl Rocky Gap Triathlon. These two events will join the Athleta Iron Girl Half Marathon (also registering now) benefiting the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center in making up the 2013 Iron Girl Triple Crown Series. Finish ALL three events, and you will earn the coveted title of "2013 Iron Girl Triple Crown Finisher," and will receive a special medal and gift.
TriColumbia is proud to be a 501c3 non-profit, making a difference for participating athletes and giving back to our community. In the last year TriColumbia contributed nearly $200,000 in direct donations to charities and community organizations, and enabled dozens of charity teams to fundraise in excess of $500,000 to support their missions. Thank you for helping us achieve our mission! All the best for a warm and wonderful holiday season! Celebrate Life!

TriColumbia's Learn2Tri Program Receives Horizon Foundation Grant The Horizon Foundation has awarded a generous grant of $35,000.00 to help fund TriColumbia's Learn2Tri Program. Now in its second year, the Learn2Tri Program is being implemented in 14 Howard County Public Schools. This innovative partnership between TriColumbia and the HSPSS seeks to teach youth about the lifestyle benefits of the sport of triathlon, and plant the seeds for lifelong physical fitness.
"Our goal is for students to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to carry on with these activities when they leave Howard County Public Schools," said Jackie French, instructional facilitator of physical education for the HCPSS. "This unique program contributes to that goal by providing a foundation for youth to build an active lifestyle that will last a lifetime."
TriColumbia assists county teachers with swimming, cycling and running instruction, and provides necessary equipment and transportation. The Horizon Foundation mission of improving the health and wellness of people who live and work in Howard County aligns with the Learn2Tri goals, and we are grateful for funding provided by the Horizon Foundation!
