Why are you a member of AZAGC?
TH: A significant concentration of my practice includes providing tax, attest and consulting services to construction contractors. Membership with the AZAGC ensures that our construction practice stays current with the latest trends and developments in the industry so that we can provide the highest level of service to our clients.
What awards have you or your company received?
TH:  In the Phoenix market, our office has won several recent awards including:
  • #1 in Consulting & Accounting by 2015 Forbes America's Best Employers
  • #1 Accounting Firm (26+ CPAs) in 2016 by Ranking Arizona
  • 2015 Arizona's Most Admired Companies
  • 2015 Best Places to Work
  • 2015 CareerBuilder Top Companies to Work for in Arizona
  • Sloan Award Honorable Mention for Excellence in the Workplace
Personally, in 2015 I received the "Affiliate of the Year Award" from the AZAGC and in 2008 I received the "Best Under the Sun Award" (Associate Member) from the CFMA Valley of the Sun Chapter. I am very proud to be a recipient of both of these awards.

I also received the Quality Service Award in 2005 from the Phoenix office of CBIZ, which recognizes 2 professionals each year (1 audit and 1 tax, non-partner level) for outstanding service to clients and others. I am very proud to be a recipient of this award as it is voted on by the employees of the Phoenix office - those that I work with side-by-side every day. Now that I am no longer eligible to receive the award I am even more grateful to have been recognized by my peers in the past.
What is one of the greatest accomplishments you and/or your company has done to help others in the community?
TH: The Phoenix office recently held our annual food drive to support the local Desert Mission Food Bank. With the help of all of our employees we were able to raise $18,000 (which translates to 90,000 lbs. of food) and was more than double the amount we raised for 2015.

The Phoenix office was honored by CBIZ for having the most successful food drive (measured by lbs.) among all CBIZ offices around the country. This accomplishment earned us an additional $5,000 to donate to the Desert Mission Food Bank for a grand total of over $23,000 in donations
What message would you say to folks to be successful in this industry?
TH: Stay actively involved and connected with people in the industry. This includes knowing the contractors, the service providers (including financial, legal, suppliers, etc) and the regulators. The industry is unique and those that are actively involved and connected in the industry will be your best partners for success.
What else would you like to share with the members of AZAGC?
TH: The more you get involved, the more you will get out of your membership with the AZAGC.
