How does your company help others in the community?
RB: The community is our ultimate client and we are committed to providing them with high quality roads that are constructed safely and efficiently. When the 2013 landslide destroyed a portion of US Route 89 near Page, it created a devastating impairment to the entire area. The only available detour added 45 miles and additional drive time, ultimately impacting families that needed to get to work and school as well as significantly decreasing tourism to Lake Powell attractions. FNF worked with ADOT (in conjunction with the FHWA, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and various Navajo Nation departments) to quickly complete an emergency project constructing a temporary route 89 (89T), paving about 27 miles of dirt roads. FNF is proud to be the contractor member of the project team that restored essential traffic to northern AZ in just over 6 months after the slide event. We are currently working with the same team to repair the portion of road destroyed by the landslide and look forward to celebrating the groundbreaking with the community this spring.
FNF's commitment to bettering the community extends to our youth which will shape our industry's future. In 2014, FNF supported over 15 local Arizona charities including the Children's First Academy in Tempe and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the East Valley. To further support the betterment of our future, FNF made a 5-year commitment to supporting the Arizona State University's Del E. Webb School of Construction program with a total of $75,000 to the school. And finally, FNF hires up to 5 interns per semester from ASU and NAU to help educate and provide some financial assistance while being employed. |
What message would you say to folks to be successful in this industry?
RB: When you find yourself in extraordinary situations, it is necessary to do more than simply what you think you can do, or what you think is your best. You must be prepared to do whatever it takes to get the job done. We believe that Winston Churchill captured one of the best inspirational quotes for those wishing to succeed when he said, "Sometimes it is not enough to do our best; we must do what is required." |
What else would you like to share with the members of AZAGC?
RB: Last year FNF celebrated 30 years of providing construction services to our clients. Our projects include some of the most complex transportation projects in the southwest. We are proud to play a significant role in shaping our industry in the Valley and the State of Arizona. |
