Mike Gold Honored at GISA Awards Banquet
Mike Gold July 2015

ST. SIMONS -- In July, the GISA (Georgia Independent School Association) held their annual induction ceremony in St. Simon Island, GA. Our own, Coach Mike Gold, was honored with the Brent Cribb Distinguished Service Award as he was inducted into the GISA Sports Hall of Fame.

Coach Gold has amassed an impressive list of accolades. During his GISA basketball coaching career at Augusta Christian and Dominion Chrisitan he has collected over 400 wins, two state titles, twice state runner-up, and numerous regional titles. He was voted Region Coach of the Year six times, Augusta Chronicle Coach of the Year three times, and State Coach of the Year twice.

If you know Mike Gold, you know it is never about statistics. It is always "Testimony First". He never boasts of his achievements, but in the privilege and opportunity to impact students with the message of Jesus Christ.

We are privileged and grateful to have Mike Gold at Dominion as athletic director.
Are You Ready?

Our annual "All School Retreat" is less than six weeks away. We are fast approaching our time annual time at Sharp Top Cove. September 29th will be here soon, so we wanted to let you know what to expect, particularly for our new families!

Lake & Rope Swing
We take this retreat each year with a goal of creating community within DCS as well as setting up our year with a time of worship and spiritual growth. For many students this is one of their fondest memories here at DCS. We leave the text books, homework, and city limit signs behind and focus on strengthening, building and creating relationships that often last for life.

We will also have our praise band lead us into worship. We have three sessions with guest speakers and our worship team.
SharpTop Cove

Cabin Bunks
We stay at Sharptop Cove in Jasper, Georgia. This is a beautiful Young Life camp facility. Our kids will stay in lodges where they will have bunk beds and nice shower and bathroom facilities. They will be grouped in those lodges by grade level. Our teachers, staff and administration will stay with the students, so they are always chaperoned. The food is prepared by the Youth Life chefs and is incredible; your student will not come home hungry!

Carter Meeting Hall
Activities
Along with our great speakers and worship, we give the kid's supervised free time to use the facilities of Sharptop Cove. Also, planned class activities are organized using fun games to get everyone involved!

Timing
You will bring luggage and bed items (more on that later) on Wednesday morning, September 29. The students will be taken on large coach buses up to Sharptop Cove on Wednesday, early afternoon. We will return home mid/late morning on Friday. We will have no additional school on Friday. There is no school on Monday, October 5.
Parent Volunteers & Helpers

As parents, we have the awesome opportunity to server our students during the retreat! We have many slots for volunteers - moms and dads are welcome! We serve food, help the Sharptop kitchen staff, and staff the Snack Bar! We sleep in a "parent cabin" - not with the kids - and it is a great way to get to know other parents.

As volunteers, we would need you to commit from Wednesday, Sep 29 at 2 pm (you will drive yourself or carpool up to SharpTop Cove) until Friday at noon. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate volunteers that can't commit to the entire time.
