We are pleased to announce that Art Finnel has joined CFO Consulting Partners, and will head its newly-formed Life Sciences practice. Art's career spans more than 25 years, and includes roles as chief financial officer, general manager, and business consultant with public and privately-held companies. His industry experience spans life sciences (early stage drug development and nutraceuticals), consumer products (human food and pet food), biotechnology, and agriculture.
A hands-on and boardroom knowledgeable CFO, he has held positions with companies ranging in scope and size from large private and publicly held multinational companies to angel and venture-backed startups. His specialties include corporate strategy, business and financial plans, SEC and private company reporting, audit preparation and oversight, mergers and acquisitions, and preparing companies for exit events, including executing an IPO and later a privatization of a NASDAQ listed agribusiness biotechnology company.
Recently Art has been providing financial advisory and accounting services to companies in the pharmaceutical and consumer products businesses. From 2005 through 2009 Art was CFO of two early stage biotech spinouts from Rutgers University. Art helped to raise nearly $20 million in financing for these companies and performed a broad set of administrative and operating functions on behalf of the CEOs and boards of directors of these organizations.
From 1995 - 2004, he was Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of Bionova Holding Corporation, an agribusiness biotechnology company. Among other achievements there, he managed its acquisition by Savia S.A. de C. V. and its initial public offering in 1996. From 1982 through 1995 Art held senior executive positions of increasing responsibility at Mars Incorporated, the giant global food company. In addition to CFO roles in operating units of Mars, he also served as president and general manager of its Canadian pet food company as it constructed a new pet food plant and launched Whiskas® premium cat food and Sheba® super premium cat food into Canada.
Art currently serves on the Board of Directors of CONRED in Mexico City, which provides management consulting services for the establishment of new businesses in Mexico. He also serves as an advisor to the CFO Alliance and has affiliations with the New Jersey Technology Council and Bio New Jersey.
Art was a founding partner of the Wharton Applied Research Center, where he led research and consulting projects for large sponsors in the public and private sectors, including Anheuser-Busch, Monsanto, Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc, S.A. de C.V., the U.S. State Department, and the Pennsylvania State Senate. He has BS and MBA degrees from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
