Boatyard & Marine Services at Kingston Wharf

OCTOBER 2014 - AUTUMN NEWS AND SPECIAL OFFERS

Welcome to our first newsletter - I hope you enjoy reading about what's happening in the Boatyard over the coming months and do take a look at our great laying up offers.

The glorious summer finally seems to be drawing to a close, replaced with rain and the gathering gloom of an early evening, so we are into autumn lay up mode here in the Boatyard.

We would like Kingston Boatyard to be the yard of choice for locals and boat owners from further afield to come ashore for this winter's refit. With great year-round prices and special offers for 'Early Birds', the 2014-15 winter should be busy and we look forward to welcoming you all. If we can't tempt you in for a winter ashore do check out our seasonal specials and we will see for a shorter spell next year!

Winter 'EARLY BIRD' deals - FREE weeks of storage
Kingston Marine Boatyard's 'Early Bird' offers are still up for grabs; the offers are for customers staying until the end of March 2015:

The two weeks FREE winter storage applies if you book to be ashore by 27th October and gives up to 10% off your winter storage bill. You can get 10 days FREE coming ashore from 28th October to 17th November (worth up to 8% off), and there is still up to 6% discount available with the seven FREE days for boats out of the water by 12th December.

If you are looking for competitively priced winter storage with a full range of services available on site for your boat - then look no further than Kingston Boatyard in East Cowes! Phone 01983 293952 to book your place.

We are happy to take care of the jobs that you may prefer not to do, or we can take on or manage the tasks that you do not have the time for.

On the team, we have expertise in the selection and application of most modern anti-fouling systems, polishes, cleaning agents and cathodic protection. We will take on anti-foul removal, epoxy treatments, hull cleaning, polishing, and painting.

However, at Kingston, flexibility is the key and we are also happy to enable you to do your own work, or to engage a contractor yourself. Whatever the job, and however you want to do it, talk to us in the yard and we will try and make it happen!

Looking good - Multi-Cat Seaclear
Our 16 metre workhorse Seaclear, a familiar sight on the River Medina, has just finished undergoing a full refit ashore for Kingston Marine Services (KMS). You can see more photos of our refitted and newly painted Seaclear on Flickr.

Coming up at the beginning of November, the team will be taking part in extra training on the vessel's 30 tonne metre HIAB deck crane, and heading into the winter you will see her out and about gathering the summer moorings and retrieving the seasonal race marks. Find out more about Seaclear's capabilities by viewing her full specifications.

Just joined - new port operative at Kingston
New to our team this month as a port operative is Islander Simon Banks who will be working across the Boatyard and afloat operations.

This means Simon will be assisting the KMB team ashore on boat maintenance, boat lifts and launches, painting buoys for Cowes Harbour as in our photo (L-R: Manager Barney Sollars with Simon Banks), or helping the moorings team with harbour buoyage afloat, the laying and retrieval of day class swinging moorings, and the various special projects that we get called upon to deal with - the jobs that often no one else can do!

Kingston Wharf explained
As I walk around the whole of the 10-acre site here, including the Boatyard, storage and berthing for the Marine Services team as well as the building housing our thriving local businesses and the two commercial wharves, I ponder that surely we are too big to miss, writes Manager Barney Sollars. However, for those who are not familiar with Kingston Wharf - here is an explanation of who we are.

The site has been owned and operated by Cowes Harbour Commission since 2012; collectively, this is Kingston Wharf.

On the site, we, Cowes Harbour Commission, run two independent businesses, Kingston Boatyard which operates the 40 tonne hoist and will happily give you a paint, polish and much more whilst you are here and Kingston Marine Services who are our afloat division, operating in the small commercial field, taking on towage, moorings and buoy management, salvage and all manner of things on the river.

As landlords on the site we also have around a dozen independent businesses who rent space and they range from marine engineers to self storage units, yacht builders to bespoke joiners, all of whom are here every day, expanding the yard's repertoire, and on top of this, we have good relationships with all trades in the area.

What this adds up to is an incredibly diverse range of available skills, from the river bed to the truck of the main mast - if it needs attention it can be done here at Kingston Wharf - if you want us to do it, then it can be done at Kingston Wharf - and if you want to do it yourself, it can be done at Kingston Wharf.

I hope that in the coming season Kingston Wharf can be the key to your project and I hope that you will tell everyone about us!

Please give us a call on 01983 293952 with any queries you may have about our Boatyard and Marine Services and we look forward to seeing you soon at Kingston Wharf.
