Greetings!

Connecting to needs and core values, I find an immensely useful tool in setting the ground work for creating a life that I love. In listening to numerous students who come to the Institute seeking skills, understanding and experiences that can build their personal foundation for a life that they love, I hear many common themes.

Essential needs or core values often expressed by students, when contemplating what they would like to experience in the context of their livelihood include: autonomy, contributing to others, self healing, inner peace, connection, authenticity, respect, financial abundance... I find these needs are  pretty universal. While some students may desire employment and others self employment, underneath the variety of distinctly different work settings available are the values each student wants to express and the needs they want to have met in the work place.

It is deeply gratifying as a Massage Practitioner Instructor and School Director, when students express how their essential needs have been met in the classroom and in the workplace. I invite you to read below from our graduates on how their training has supported them in moving through areas of challenge, expressing core values and creating a life that they love. I invite you to consider what is possible for yourself in joining our Massage Practitioner Program.

Peace and Ease be with you,

KT

Sue Reinhart Describes her Satisfaction with Massage Work

Making more money now than with her former graphic design work and feeling respected in the workplace

I have been increasingly happy at Massage Envy in Goleta. The best thing is being able to build on-going relationships of trust with my clients. They are local people, our friends and neighbors in the community rather than tourists passing through. I really love doing trigger point work, and the membership plan at Massage Envy makes frequent visits affordable for the clients so that I don't feel bad when I have to recommend that someone come back once a week or more, as is often the case when working with trigger points. Since my focus is on helping people with pain, Massage Envy's system lets me do this in the most affordable way possible for my clients.

My work schedule is something I've always dreamed of. Since I have a lot of other creative/healing pursuits going on - writing, art work, teaching about local Medicinal Plants in Adult Education - that need to be done during daylight hours, its like heaven that I am actually able to work evenings only and still get home at my normal bedtime. The fact that I want to work part-time is never a problem either. It really is possible to help support your other creative and educational pursuits while working part-time doing massage. We also get to set the parameters of our schedule, how many hours of massage in a row, and how many total hours in a shift.

My former career, of 40 years, was in Graphic Design. I tried so many times to break out of that profession into something else, but I always had to start at the bottom with no respect and very low wages. From the very start I have been respected as a professional at Massage Envy, both by my co-workers and by the clients........

1,000 Hour Student Vanessa Simpson Speaks of her SBBTI Experience

I am not a morning person, but let me say that on this particular morning, I was awake and ready. It was my first day of school - again. Knots already at work, tangling up my stomach (and spleen), but I was excited, just like every other first day of school I had been through. I had always planned on returning to school someday, but for Music Education or Choral Conducting, not Massage Therapy. Yet here I sat, on these strange black padded floors in one of the most interesting looking buildings that they told me was a massage school. The posters of Trigger Points, Organs, and Meridians on all the walls, plus the huge canvas centered on the high wall highlighting the Flower of Life swayed me. So, here we sat in a circle, my classmates, teachers, and I. What would become my new family, tribe, another place to call Home.

I cannot imagine where my life would be right now without this school, people, and experience. About 6 months into classes, most of which I had never heard of (Tui Na? what? Visceral Lymphatic Drainage?  I found energy just flowed, sometimes burned, effortlessly in and out of my body. I began to understand that my childhood connection to plants and animals was an energetic exchange, a non-verbal understanding stemming back from longer than I can remember.

Now, 650 hours into the 1,000 hr Holistic Health Practitioner program, and 100 hours into the 200 hr Medical Qigong program, my life has not only changed, but it has been enhanced in every possible way........
