Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute Newsletter July 3, 2013

Greetings!

Self sustaining employment in massage is the strong motivator for most students who join us in the classroom at the Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute. Three key ingredients that I hear from our successful grads in fullfillilng that dream, is having a strong grounding in our 250 hour Massage Practitioner Program, some form of Deep Tissue massage, and employment straight out of school in a local spa for confidence and skill building.

Deep Tissue Massage is the classic massage approach to releasing deep muscle tension, postural distortions and resolving assorted pain  patterns. Here at SBBTI we have several approaches to Deep Tissue: Spa Deep Tissue, Cross Fiber Deep Tissue/Table Shiatsu and Trigger Point Therapy.

Spa Deep Tissue offers classic, deep  muscle stripping integrated with Swedish strokes applied to the full body. It is deeply relaxing and effective for resolving pain. For the practitioner it provides a framework for addressing area specific issues within the context of a full body oil based kata.

DTCross Fiber Deep Tissue /Table Shiatsu offers classic Cross Fiber Strokes  integrated with full body Shiatsu and Neurolymphatic Scrubbing. It not only releases deep muscle tension, but also is effective in balancing hormones,  digestive disturbances, emotional imbalances and chronic pain patterns.

Trigger Point Therapy offers area specific, static pressure targeting hyper irritable modules in the muscle or trigger points.  It is deeply relaxing and resolves myofascial referral pain patterns.

This summer and fall we are offering each of these approaches to Deep Tissue massage, highly popular in the Spa setting and private practice.  We invite you to join us in the classroom to augment your skills and understanding.

KT To your success in building a thriving massage practice,

Katie Mickey
Director of the Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute

What's possible with  Spa Employment straight out of Massage School?

"For all potential Spa employees, I highly recomend supplementing your Swedish training with Spa Deep Tissue, Tuina or Table Shiatsu. There are plenty of other great courses, but those are great places to start. In the Spa setting, you will need to know how to work with and without oil, work deeply and put together a full body kata.

Working at Massage Envy was most brilliant for getting my hands on all the different bodies. Learning through so many different people all shapes and sizes. They supplied all the clients, sheets, lotions, everything I needed to start work straight out of school. It can be hard acquiring clients when you first start out. Working at Massage Envy, you get to focus on your work instead.

A year of steady Spa employment was necsessary to build skills and confidence for the private practise that I enjoy now."
Aeon Oliver- Terry, 550 student in private practice

"My first three weeks at Massage Envy has been a very nice experience. Working part time (4 days/week) has been a very gradual and easy introduction to the business. The fact that I don't have to worry about laundry and booking and the massage table is hydrolic- it's all a care free experience for me. To just walk in with my hands -that is all I need and get the job done. The personnel are friendly. The environment is relaxed, the tips are impressive and pay day was a very gratifying experience."

Walter Watowski, Massage Practitioner, SBBTI 250 student 7/02/2013

High Demand for Massage Practitioners!

"We are consistently hiring therapists year round. We could easily hire 20 more therapists in our 5 Tri-County locations. The graduates that come out of Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute are the most well-rounded, possess the best techniques and draping of all the graduates from schools in the Tri-Counties."

-Christin Omdahl, owner of 5 Massage Envy Clinics.
