Kyle Ethan Fischer and Bebe Beretta
ON EXHIBIT : THE UNSPOKEN and SELF-REFLECTION

The public reception for The Unspoken was held on April 25th. Artist Nicole Schneider traveled to Pittsburgh to join us for the evening, as well as our own local artists Kyle Ethan Fischer, Joshua Hogan, and Shawn Watrous. Here's a look at all the artwork! We send a special thanks to Bebe Beretta, a living sculpture for the evening!

In conjunction with The Unspoken, the California University graduating class of 2015 presents Self-Reflection: The Process of Art in our (still in transformation) 2nd Floor Gallery. Self-Reflection features eight very different women artists and examines their artistic process as it progresses into the future. From wax casting and pottery to abstract and surreal painting, each artist employs their media to visually communicate their intended subject matter.

The Unspoken and Self-Reflection continues on exhibit until May 15th!
Josh at work! LOVE ART FAIR
RECAP : LOVE ART FAIR

BoxHeart headed to Toronto in April to exhibit artwork by Dee Briggs, Seth Clark, Kyle Ethan Fischer, Joshua Hogan, Kal Mansur, Kuzana Ogg, and Brenda Stumpf at the Love Art Fair!

A sister fair to the global brand Affordable Art Fair, Love Art featured 50 international galleries, presented workshops on collecting art, and hosted viewing parties over the three day event. We greatly enjoyed our time in Toronto! In addition to exhibiting at the fair, we had the opportunity to visit Kal Mansur's Studio and view his creations in process, our 2016 Artist of the Year!

See if you can spot Seth Clark's, Joshua Hogan's and Kuzana Ogg's artwork in the Love Art Video!

Color and application remain at the focal point of Kuzana Ogg's most recent paintings. Drips, splashes, scratches, and abrasions serve to increase actual and implied texture. These paintings reveal symbols based on piping and instrumentation diagrams used in the oil industry. The scale and orientation of these signs are often manipulated to create dynamic geometric compositions. Ogg's delicate line configurations and layering methods produce lustrous and complex surfaces. Most recently, Ogg's paintings were exhibited at The Bakersfield Museum of Art, The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, and The Westmoreland Museum of Art. Ogg currently lives and works in Bakersfield California.

THE BETA PROJECT : PHIPPS' CONSERVATORY

A collaborative effort between Phipps, SmithGroup JJR and MoxBox Consulting, the BETA (Biophilia Enhanced Through Art) Project is an inspiring collection of art at the Center for Sustainable Landscapes (CSL). Showcasing the work of more than 20 regional, national, and international artists, it takes the CSL experience to a new level of sensory immersion, enhancing and restoring bonds between people and the natural world.

Pittsburgh artists Peter Johnson and Peter Lambert (Red Star Ironworks) recently completed new BETA Projects! Johnson created a fused and etched glass "Living Building Challenge" Donor Wall, now installed on the ground floor of the CSL. Lambert was on-site the first week of April fabricating "a luna", a cor-ten steel exterior sculpture that highlights the CSL's beautiful natural surroundings!

"In developing the concept for the sculpture, Lambert said he envisioned a piece of art that would explore the interaction of the building and its environment. The rectangular bars echo the shape of the building, but are bent, rolled and twisted in ways that speak to the curving shapes of the hillside, its plants and the nearby water." by Amy McConnell Schaarsmith, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

NEWS : BRENDA STUMPF MOVES TO PITTSBURGH

We love Pittsburgh's art scene, and it's getting even better as we welcome artist Brenda Stumpf to our city! This summer, she'll be setting up shop in Stanton Heights as she prepares for her upcoming exhibition, Between Worlds, with us this September!

Born in Parma Ohio, Stumpf made her mark regionally before moving to Denver Colorado, where she has lived and worked for the past ten years. Her artwork has been included twice in both The International Assemblage Artist Exhibition in Berlin Germany and The Midyear Exhibition at The Butler Institute of American Art. Jerry Saltz, art critic for New York Magazine, juried her sculpture in the group exhibition Taboo at Studio Montclair. Stumpf's artwork was also selected for the Colorado Art Open juried by Christoph Heinrich, director of the Denver Art Museum and Michael Chavez, the former curator of the Foothills Art Center.

Known for her complex use of non-traditional materials, Stumpf has been one of our most exceptional exhibiting artists for the past 14 years. We are so very excited to have her in Pittsburgh!
