2014 Artist of the Year: IRINA KOUKHANOVA
In her two - and three- dimensional work, artist Irina Koukhanova addresses the space where the solitary struggle and triumph of the individual psyche unravel through a multitude of references escorted by an ironic grin. "Panoptic Landscape" captures an all encompassing system viewed from the perspective of a human or an animal, an adult or a child, and alludes to authority, power play, and the dynamics of entrapment.
Educated at the Moscow Institute of Art and Industrial Design, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and the University of Notre Dome Indiana, Koukhanova is currently the head of the sculpture program at Cleveland State University. An internationally exhibiting artist, Koukhanova has recently showed her work in Switzerland and Slovakia. She has a number of public and corporate art commissions and her artist residencies include Sculpture Space, New York and Santa Fe Art Institute, New Mexico, among others.
It is with great pleasure that we announce our 2014 Artist of the Year: Irina Kouhanova and her debut exhibition in Pittsburgh, "Panoptic Landscape," which will be on exhibit from March 18th through May 16th, 2014.
