From Monday, June 13 through Sunday, June 26, the traveling exhibit "Great Lakes Small Streams:  How Water Shapes Wisconsin," will be on display at the Wade House Historic Site in Greenbush, Wisconsin.
Shapes Wisconsin" features an interactive kiosk that allows visitors to track the movement of glaciers, follow changes made to local rivers over time, or seek out easy solutions to save water in their own homes. It will stimulate visitors to think about and discuss how people interact with the environment - with emphasis on how our relationship with water shaped Wisconsin's past and will continue to shape its future.
"The exhibit encourages guests to consider the many ways water has shaped our state, both geographically and as a driver for settlement and industry," said Kristen Leffelman, field services representative for the Wisconsin Historical Society and lead curator of the exhibit. "From there, it looks at how we have, in turn, shaped our waterways, highlighting some of the sustainability issues that challenge us today. Our water is such a rich resource and shaped our culture in so many ways. We want to share how it played and continues to play such an important part in our lives and livelihood," said Leffelman.
In conjunction with the display of "Great Lakes Small Streams: How Water Shapes Wisconsin," Wade House will be offering water-related adventures for guests. On Father's Day weekend, Wade House will honor dads and grandfathers by offering behind-the-scenes tours of the inner workings of our water-powered sawmill with a focus on how the water-driven turbine produces the necessary energy to drive our 1850s up-and-down muley saw from the flow of the Mullet River. Additional hands-on water-related activities will include reeling in fish with cane poles and guided nature hikes along the Mullet River.
"Great Lakes Small Streams: How Water Shapes Wisconsin" will be on display at the Wade House Visitor Center, which is located at W7965 State Highway 23 in Greenbush, WI. Admission is as follows: adults - $11; students/seniors - $9.25; Children (5-17) - $5.50; family (up to two adults and two or more dependent children 5-17) - $30.
