Greetings!
It's officially autumn and we're ready to celebrate the changing season. It's the perfect time to visit our historic sites and museums. All Wisconsin Historic Sites and Museums (except First Capitol) are open through mid-October with most open through the end of October and some beyond that. We invite you to check out all the events we've planned for the weeks ahead.

Civil War Weekend at Wade House
I n our continuing commemoration of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, Wade House will turn back the clock to the 1863 Battle of Chickamauga during the historic site's 23rd Annual Civil War Weekend. Held the last weekend in September, Civil War Weekend is two action-filled days of battle reenactments, military drills, medical care situations, period music and food, demonstrations and Fritz Klein portraying President Abraham Lincoln. There will be programs and activities for children and adults alike. Admission includes the new Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum and tours of the historic buildings on site, including a first-floor tour of the Wade House Stagecoach Hotel and the Herrling Sawmill.

Autumn Celebration at Wade House
Come celebrate the season. Activities include 19th-century seasonal games, pumpkin carving, carriage rides and scary stories by candle light.

Treaty Days: Honoring the Treaty of 1854 at Madeline Island Museum Celebrate Ojibwe culture with special programs, demonstrations and exhibits in commemoration of the 1854 Treaty. Saturday, September 28 - 10am - 3:30pm Sunday, September 29 - 10am - 3:30pm

Cornish Festival Pub Night and Crowdy Crawn at Pendarvis
The Kiddleywind Pub at Pendarvis will offer a special evening with live music and pub games.
Friday, September 27 - 7:00 - 10:00pm
Crowdy Crawn is a Cornish expression meaning "entertainment that is a mixture of things". Expect just that - lace-making, spinning, quilting, storytelling, lore and laughter.

Hoops & Bustles: A Look at Victorian Women's Fashion at
H.H. Bennett Studio
Leslie Bellais, Curator of Costumes & Textiles at the Wisconsin Historical Society, presents an entertaining educational power point on women's clothing from 1835 to 1900. Beware that some audience members will be asked to model reproductions of a hoop dress and bustle gown!

Death and Mourning in the Victoria Era at Black Point Estate
Public funerals complete with floral arrangements became part of the ritual of death during the Victoria Era (1876-1915). Plan to visit Black Pointe Estate for a late afternoon tour and evening presentation on Victorian funeral and mourning customs.

You'll Have Loads of Fall Fun at Old World Wisconsin!
Thursdays through Sundays, through October 13
Don't miss this chance to experience the harvest, featuring the change-of-season activities of Wisconsin's earliest setters. A different rural theme each weekend!
This weekend: September 28-29: Holidays Around the Corner
October 5-6: Machines and Manpower*
- See steam- and gas-powered engines at work, help split kindling, and see the draft horses skidding logs and plowing fields.
- October 6; 1:30 pm: First Sunday of the Month Heirloom Garden Stroll, led by Old World Wisconsin's historical gardener, Marcia Carmichael. Tour the Ketola and Rankinen gardens (Finnish area). Museum admission admits you to this final walk of the season.

Like the early settlers, we use everything but the squeal! Learn all about early meat preservation methods. We're working the fields as well with our powerful draft horses.
- Heritage of Darkness Book Launch! Saturday, October 12, noon to 5 pm. Kathleen Ernst, former Old World Wisconsin curator and award-winning author, will be available to sign the latest Chloe Ellefson mystery, on the site where the series began!
