WELCOME TO RUTIZ FARMS

HAPPENINGS AT THE FARM

Possible bug problem in our blackberries...we have noticed that some fruit fly larvae are being found inside the blackberries. It's nothing to be overly worried about...they are not harmful to people if eaten and you can usually remove them by soaking the berries in a weak vinegar and water solution. This is the first time in all my years of growing blackberries that we have seen this pest invading the blackberries...maybe brought on by the unusually warm and dry winter...not enough cold temperatures to interrupt many of our pest's life cycles.

WHAT'S NEW IN THE BOX

First of the season for our own "bi-color" sweet corn.

This week's Harvest will include "Flame" red seedless grapes from Alyssa Burkart of Burkart Organic Farm located in Dinuba, California. Sweet and delicious!

PRODUCTS AVAILABLE AT OUR STAND FROM OTHER FARMERS AND BUSINESSES:

Kelli ( aka Sweet Pea) has her tasty baked cookies and cakes at the stand each Friday (you can reach her direct at Sweetpeabakeryag.blogspot.com).

Debbie Coletti, a local baker who specializes in gulten-free cooking, will have her baked goods available for sale at our farm stand every Tuesday.

"Artisan" breads from "Little Red Hen" Bakery every Tuesday and Friday

Goat cheeses from Drake Farms in Southern California...apricot and honey, jalapeno and garlic and onion flavors.

Juices from Chadmark Farms of Paso Robles...apple cider, pomegranate cider and 100% pure pomegranate juice . All of his juices are "flashed pasteurized" for best flavor and nutrient retention.

Almond Brittle from Paso Almonds of SLO...freshly made each week by Rusty and his crew.

Mandarins and Valencia oranges from Friend's Ranch in Ojai...pesticide free.

Peaches and nectarines from John Tenerelli of Little Rock, Ca

Peaches, pluots, and grapes from Alyssa Burkart of Dinuba, Ca ...certified organically grown.

"Vine ripened" tomatoes from Jacinto Bautista of Arroyo Grande

Vegetable and herb starts from The Transitions Mental Health Growing Grounds of Santa Maria...pesticide free!

Fresh fish caught by local fisherman out of Morro Bay is offered every Friday at our stand. Contact Marc Tognazzini at (805) 748-9995 or www.morrobaydockside.com for sign up info for the fish CSF.

Honey: $13 for a 1 pound jar

Harvest Box Info
You are welcome to come by and pick out individual items from the table or continue to pick up your reserved Harvest box or both( add items that may not be included in your Box that week)..The Harvest Boxes, which cost $18 / week , will be available for pick up during the Stand hours on Fridays only. I would ask you to kindly let me know by Thursday evening of each week, with a E mail response( use the link in the right hand column of this newsletter where it says Order Your Harvest Box) if you want a Box for the week. Please take note: this ordering link is only usable for the current week's newsletter....After Friday morning of each week, the ordering link becomes unusable!
