WELCOME TO RUTIZ FARMS
HAPPENINGS ON FARM:
Beginning next Tuesday, May, 12 , Debbie Coletti, a local baker who specializes in gulten-free cooking, will have her baked goods available for sale at our farm stand. She will be coming only on Tuesdays...as Kelli ( Sweet Pea Bakery ) will continue to sell her goodies every Friday.
In order to introduce Debbie to everyone, here is her bio:
" My name is Debbie and I love to bake! When my kids were growing up, I could be found in the kitchen baking nearly every night and was known for my creations. About ten years ago, though, I was diagnosed with Celiacs and had to go gluten-free for my health. Not willing to give up my love of baking and refusing to feel deprived, I challenged myself to create gluten-free baked goods that tasted just as good-if not better!- as typical desserts. When I bake, I want everyone to exclaim, "I Can't Believe It's Gluten-Free"! As a person with dietary restrictions, I understand how frustrating it can be to feel excluded from wonderful products, so I always include sugar-free and dairy-free options for customers, as well. I would love for everyone to come sample my desserts, including cookies, scones, and quick breads, and let me know what other sweet treats you're craving, since I am always open to requests! Come chat and tell me if you can believe it's gluten-free! "
Our strawberry field is now open for u-pick each Tuesday and Friday from noon to 6 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm. Bring the family out for a fun time picking our delicious strawberries. Bring your own containers or use our baskets to pick into. The price will be $2.50 per pound, which works out to be about $2.50 per one pint basket ( our regular price when purchased already picked at the stand is $3/basket ). We will continue to have plenty of picked berries available at The Stand, along with all our other veggies and fruits.
What's in the box this week:
How about a recipe using this week's potatoes, thyme and garlic:
Scrub the dirt off the potato skins ( no need to peel )
cut potatoes into halves or quarters ( depending on size )
put into a large bowl, mix with a little olive oil, thyme leaves ( remove the small leaves from the woody stem ), and minced garlic.
spread out single layer on a cookie sheet, roast in the oven at 400 degrees until crispy and brown.
This week's avocados are the Hass varietiy grown by David Righetti of San Luis Obispo. Let them sit out on your kitchen counter ( or put them in a paper sack with a ripe banana or apple to quicken the ripening process ) until they are soft, but not overly squishy!
