HAPPENINGS ON FARM:
Lori Andrews, from "Soap Me Up too" will have her hand-made soaps on display and for sale at our stand this Friday. Heather and John Teixeira will be bringing their locally-raised beef cuts to our stand this Friday. Be sure to stock up for the Labor Day weekend bar-b-ques. Sweet, red watermelons from Noah at Pacific Organic Farm in Creston will be offered starting this Thursday and lasting until we run out. "Seckel" pears from Lisen of Vintage Organic Farm in San Luis Obispo will be available this week at our stand.
Raspberry u-pick this Thursday and Friday ( and Saturday if supplies last). The raspberry plants are not as vigorous as in past years, so not so many raspberries to pick...so come early for best picking. The price will be $5/ pound.
Be sure to look for our blackberries and raspberries at the stand table....this is their peak season---ripe and sweet! You may have heard of a grassroots movement to spread the love of books and learning all over the world. Well, Rutiz Family Farm is joining in with our own book exchange beginning Friday. Our goal is to share food books in all their forms; cooking, planting, harvesting, raw food recipes, juicing, whatever book you have that you'd like to freely exchange with your community. "Take a book, leave a book" p.s. We were inspired by one of our customers who has a free little library in her front yard!
WHAT'S IN YOUR HARVEST BOX THIS WEEK: How about a nice fresh kale salad using the bunch of Tuscano kale in your box this week. First, gently massage the leaves with your hands for a minute to make them a bit more tender. Then cut up the leaves into thin "ribbons" discarding the thicker portion of the stem. Mix in a bowl with some vinaigrette dressing and chopped nuts and fruits and finish with some Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top..delicious and good for you! Or how about some "kale chips"...wash and separate the leafy part from the stem ( discard the thicker stems ), cut up the leaves into smaller portions, add a little olive oil and seasonings, put on a roasting pan and roast in a hot oven until the leaves are crispy. .

Harvest Box Info
You are welcome to come by and pick out individual items from the table or continue to pick up your reserved Harvest box or both( add items that may not be included in your Box that week)..The Harvest Boxes, which cost $15 / week , will be available for pick up during the Stand hours on Fridays only. I would ask you to kindly let me know by Thursday evening of each week, with a E mail response( use the link in the right hand column of this newsletter where it says Order Your Harvest Box) if you want a Box for the week. Please take note: this ordering link is only usable for the current week's newsletter....After Friday morning of each week, the ordering link becomes unusable!
