WELCOME TO RUTIZ FARMS
HAPPENINGS ON FARM:
Raspberry u-pick this Thursday and Friday ( and Saturday if supplies last). The raspberry plants are not as vigorous as in past years, so not so many raspberries to pick...so come early for best picking. The price will be $5/ pound.
Be sure to look for our blackberries and raspberries at the stand table....this is their peak season---ripe and sweet!
We are finished with the pumpkin engraving for this season....there was a short window of opportunity when the skin of the pumpkin is soft enough to engrave on ( and that was last week ) ...and this has come and gone in one week!
HARVEST BOXES DELIVERED FOR THE SLO CITY AREA
After much discussion and thoughts with my staff, we have decided not to offer the Harvest Box delivery ( for at least this fall ) to the San Luis Obispo city area. We feel that our energies can be better directed toward improving direct sales from our farm stand ( we have opened the stand an additional day...Thursdays ) and working toward activities that will involve more of our local community. We greatly appreciate everyone's support and time put in through these past seasons...and hope that your families have enjoyed eating the produce from our farm.
You can still get our veggies and fruits for your families...we just need to figure a way for you to make it down to our farm stand in Arroyo Grande. Here's an idea...how about getting a network going of families that live in the SLO area, who want to continue to get our produce, to form a carpool, and you could take turns coming to the farm stand each Friday to pick up boxes for other families. If any of you are interested in such a network, please send me your name and email address, and I will compile a list and send it out to all interested parties. Then you can make arrangements among yourselves.
Otherwise, our stand will continue to be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, noon to 6pm and Saturdays, 10am to 4pm. We hope that you will find time to come visit us and see the farm. Our original visions for the farm business was that families would be coming to the farm and seeing and experiencing the place from which their food comes from. By us delivering the packed boxes of produce to another location, I feel that we have lost some of that valuable connection .
WHAT'S IN YOUR HARVEST BOX THIS WEEK: The bi-color sweet corn tastes great...and there is the problem! The worms love it too...so from here on out, we will be cutting off the tip of each ear before we put them in the boxes. Hopefully, this will spare you from having to open your ear of corn and finding this extra "protein." Our own "4th of July" tomatoes are small but tasty! A great size to use the whole tomato sliced up to make a sandwich..(so you don't have to figure out what to do with the other half ) .
