WELCOME TO RUTIZ FARMS

3 NOTEWORTHY EVENTS COMING UP AT THE STAND

FREE ROASTED CORN AT THE STAND THIS FRIDAY
To celebrate our great tasting bi-color sweet corn,
free roasted sweet corn for everyone that comes by this Friday, August 8,  noon to 5 pm.   Jerry will  bar-b-q  up ears of our tasty  corn...the only requirement to get your free ear of roasted corn is you must take a minute and sit down at our farm stand, relax, and enjoy the tastes of fresh summer corn...no "take home" ears!

TOMATO U-PICK
We will have our tomato field open for you-pick this coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday during stand hours.  The cost will be $1.50/ pound when you pick them yourself ( the already picked tomatoes at our stand cost $3/ pound).  These are our "Fourth of July" variety, a smaller size tomato,  sweet flavor, and meaty...great for sauces or freezing.

Coming up next week... Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday...we will have our pumpkin field open for "engraving".  Be sure to not miss this short window of opportunity to make your own custom pumpkin. Write your name on a pumpkin still growing on the vine in the field and then come back in October to find your pumpkin when it is finished growing.

WHAT'S  IN YOUR HARVEST BOX THIS WEEK:
This week's box has a salsa making theme:
Included are veggies from our farm that will make a great salsa with just a little effort.
Saute together the chopped up onions, garlic, chilies, corn (cut the kernels off the ear) and tomatillos in a skillet with a little olive oil.  Chop up the cilantro and tomatoes and put everything into a food processor for just a short moment (don't over do it, you don't want a puree, you want it to stay a bit chunky).   Add some cut up cucumbers or a ripe avocado (be sure to put your avocados inside a paper bag on the kitchen counter to hurry up ripening).

The bi-color sweet corn tastes great...and there is the problem!  The worms love it too...so from here on out, we will be cutting off the tip of each ear before we put them in the boxes.  Hopefully, this will spare you from having to open your ear of corn and finding this extra "protein."

Our own "4th of July" tomatoes are small but tasty!  A great size to use the whole tomato sliced up to make a sandwich..(so you don't have to figure out what to do with the other half )
