WELCOME TO RUTIZ FARMS

NEW ITEM AT THE FARM STAND:
Gala apples from Chadmark Farms in Paso Robles.  They're a bit on the small side, but sweet and crunchy!  His farming practices include use of "dormant" sprays ( organic oils ) during the winter, but no sprays put on the trees after blossom.

Kelli ( aka Sweet Pea Bakery ) will be taking this Friday off, Aug. 1.  So, no cookies and treats at the stand this week...she plans to be back on the next Friday, Aug. 8.

This week our peach growers are in between varieties, so we may not have much in the way of peaches for the stand until next week.  But, on the bright side, our blackberries and raspberries are starting to ripen, so we should see more of those for the table this week.  Strawberries are finished for the season.
WHAT'S NEW IN YOUR HARVEST BOX THIS WEEK:
The bi-color sweet corn tastes great...and there is the problem!  The worms love it too...so from here on out, we will be cutting off the tip of each ear before we put them in the boxes.
Hopefully, this will spare you from having to open your ear of corn and finding this extra "protein"
Our own "4th of July" tomatoes are small but tasty!  A great size to  use the whole tomato sliced up to make a sandwich..(so you don't have to figure out what to do with the other half )

Here's a neat idea for a veggie stir-fry using the green beans, onions, carrots and corn that you will find in this week's box.  To a skillet with a little heated olive oil...add chopped up onions, rainbow carrots and green beans, saute for a few minutes, then add some sweet corn kernels that have been already shaved off the ear...stir-fry together for a few more minutes until cooked to your desires.   You could even add a sliced up tomato (or two) near the end of the cooking time for some sweetness and red color.

The "Tuscano" kale is great cut up into thin ribbons ( remove the thicker ribs) and eaten as a fresh salad with a little vinegarett dressing and parmesean cheese

This week's celery is a bit on the small side ( as compared to the huge, watery stalks that you find in the supermarket ), but it's great flavor more than makes up for it's lack in size.
