July 2014 ChoraLink

Greetings, colleagues!

I am so pleased to be at your service as the new
president of the Eastern Division; it is humbling to write to each of you under these auspices. As we move forward over these next two years, the ACDA leadership team and I hope you will be in conversation with us about what resources and opportunities you need from us to continue to inform and inspire your work.

The ChoraLink email is just one such resource, with a new design aimed at packing as much pertinent and timely information into each issue as possible,
while still allowing you to see--at a glance--those issues and announcements
that most affect you.

I hope you'll take a moment to explore the new design, follow some of the links, and then let us know what you think. We're listening, and we're here to serve.

New R&S Chairs Appointed
It gives me great pleasure to announce our slate of Repertoire and Standards Chairs for the 2014-2016 term. This talented team of tireless advocates are the lifeblood of our organization, and they do it all for the thrill of working with--and for--each of you:

These folks are here to serve you. Have a question about repertoire? Wondering about best practices in your area? Want to volunteer to help with their next project? Then please don't hesitate to reach to them out over email--they would welcome your questions, suggestions, and big ideas.

Upcoming Conferences
A reminder that most states still have upcoming conferences throughout the summer and into the fall. Please visit the links in the right sidebar of the states closest to you to learn more and register. Or, if you're looking for a wonderful excuse to travel to somewhere new, a full list of all states' upcoming conferences can be found here

It's also not too early to begin making plans to attend our upcoming National Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. The conference will take place Wednesday to Saturday, February 25-28, 2015. Lots more information can be found by going here.

And for those of you used to planning well in advance, save the dates for our next Eastern Division Conference, which will be in Boston's "Back Bay" Wednesday through Saturday, February 10-13, 2016. The planning committee has been hard at work since last fall, and the conference promises to be a great opportunity to push beyond our everyday boundaries into new modes of inspiration.
We Want Your Choir Photos
Take any great photos of your ensembles lately? We're looking for pictures that capture the essence(s) of choral music throughout the Eastern Division. We're in the middle of redesigning our website, and would love to include some pictures of you, our membership, in action.

Photos must either be your own, or if they are the work of a professional, you must have permission to use them (and permission for us to re-use them). Send digital files to dfryling@acdaeast.org and put "Eastern Division Choir Photos" in the subject line. Please include your name, the ensemble's name, and where and when the photo was taken, and perhaps your ensemble will be a part of our new site!
A Thank You...
Finally, I would like to thank Bob Duff, now Vice President of the Eastern Division, for his singular leadership and dogged hard work over the past two-plus years on behalf of our organization. Bob's uncompromising vision birthed and supported many new and important initiatives, including a move to an app-based conference program, digitization of all conference performances and sessions for future reference, and a pilot run of the National ACDA Mentoring program (which you'll be hearing more about in a future ChoraLink), among many other accomplishments. Bob's shoes are indeed large, and his pace sure, but I look forward to following on the path he and the many others who have preceded him have laid forth. Thank you, Bob.

Here's to all our next steps, together.
