The Culture and Practices of Successful Grantseeking Organizations
Thursday, January 24, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
At Vancouver Community Library, 901 C Street
There is no registration fee for this session, but you do need to register in advance! REGISTRATION What does it take to be a successful grantseeking organization? Success in grantsmanship involves much more than being able to write a good proposal. As an organization, you must also have in place the right culture, the right values, the right tools and resources to support your grantseeking process and manage your grant-funded programs and services well on behalf of your funder and the community you serve. In this session, you'll learn how to lay the groundwork for effective grantsmanship in both your organization's culture and its practices.
Presenter Maryn Boess

The Leadership Model - Keynote Address There is a difference between leading an organization or program and managing one. In this keynote, Rick Lynch lays out five major differences in the two approaches. While both are essential functions, volunteers in the upcoming decades are more likely to respond to being led than being managed. Skills in this area are therefore vital to success.
Speaker Richard Lynch is a Seattle-based management consultant with a variety of clients in the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, Australia, Singapore, and Russia. He is the President of Lynch Associates, a consulting firm whose mission is to help organizations create good places to work. Each year, Mr. Lynch speaks at approximately 100 workshops, conventions, and conferences around the world on topics related to personal growth and management effectiveness.
Washington Serves - Plenary Session Do you know about the statewide plan for supporting volunteerism, Washington Serves? Come find out! The Washington Serves vision is to create an effective volunteer ecosystem that enables volunteers to address the needs of communities throughout the state of Washington. Volunteers are the one resource that we can grow and sustain to counter the impacts of unemployment, increased housing, food, and financial insecurity, stalled hopes, and cutbacks in nonprofit and government programs. The plan highlights challenges, promotes best practices, and presents a comprehensive plan of action towards a healthier, more sustainable volunteer infrastructure.
In addition to the Opening Plenary and Keynote Luncheon, participants will select from breakout sessions on recruitment, skills-based volunteering, limiting liability, the culture of volunteerism, and more.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals
has a nifty little survey on raising funds and will share the info with
participants so we all have a better picture of the landscape.
The state association, Washington Nonprofits, is accessing the health of the nonprofit sector as well as their own impact. You get to share your thoughts and help tip the karmic scales for the next time you ask your potential clients and donors to provide 'feedback'.
The Nonprofit Finance Fund has their 5th annual survey on the financial state of the sector. 10 minutes. Let our area be represented on these surveys!

| Master of Science in Management and Organizational Leadership Non Profit Emphasis
Warner Pacific College is excited to announce the launch of their The Master of Science in Management and Organizational Leadership (MMOL) with a Non-Profit emphasis.
This program focuses on the theories, models, research findings and best practices found in the interdisciplinary, organizational leadership studies field. Although classical leadership theories, models and case studies are examined, the emphasis of the program is practical and applied in nature, building cognitive, behavioral, spiritual, interpersonal, and strategic leadership skills that are applicable to the real-world, issues-based experiences of the working adult enrolled in the program.
Our goal is to reach leaders in the city who have a dream of developing their leadership skills to serve the non-profit sector. The first cohort begins in February, 2013 so now is the time to enroll. CCP brings together dynamic, short-term teams of OD professionals to provide pro-bono consultation to metro area, non-profit organizations unable to afford consulting services. Utilizing volunteers from our network, we form Consulting Teams of 2-4 individuals, backed by a Team Leader with 10-20 years of consulting experience.
