FAQs
About the Driver's Education Classroom Course at CCA

What is the minimum age to take this course?

We recommend that students be approaching or are already 15 1/2 years of age to enroll in the Driver's Education program; students must be at least 15 1/2 to take the DMV written test.  We encourage students to take the DMV written test immediately following the Driver's Ed course so that the information is still fresh in their minds. We hope everyone will pass on their first try!

What will my child receive upon completion of the class?

Students will receive an official certificate of completion at the end of the session. The certificate verifies that students have fulfilled the State of California's requirement for Driver's Education. With this certificate, students who are 15½ or older will be able to take the DMV written test to get a learner's permit.

What is the next step after the learner's permit is obtained?
The learner's permit is valid after the student completes one, 2-hour driving lesson with an accredited driving school. Behind-the-Wheel Driver's Training is not included in this program, but our partner, Golden State Driving School, offers safe and experienced Behind-the-Wheel instruction. Your child may begin to drive with a parent immediately after completing the first 2-hour driving lesson.

What are the benefits of a classroom-based program?

Finish in 4 days, live instruction, interactive learning, lifesaving & defensive driving skills, multiple practice tests, higher first-time passing rate on written test. Biggest benefit: you can make an appointment for the DMV written test now because you know when Driver's Ed will be completed.

What are good resources for parents who are new to this process?

We recommend the parent/teen guide and provisional license web page published by the State of California:
