The Five Secrets of Innovation
|
Creating a Culture of Innovation
According to Alexander Blass, "Innovators are not born, they are created." CEO of the Innovation Institute of America, Blass is an internationally acclaimed American innovator and entrepreneur.
Questioning the origin of the human side of innovation, he references a "tool box," saying that everyone has a personal and professional tool box. The personal tool box covers personal values, ethics and culture, whereas the professional tool box is more of a resume and includes your education and experience. "These two [tool boxes] impact the way entrepreneurs, leaders or innovators are developed in society." With all of these factors in mind, Blass encourages individuals to find what drives them and motivates them to innovate.
According to Blass, there are 5 secrets of innovation:
1. Be empathetic to what people really value in a product or service.
2. Does your product or service create a social impact? Does it inspire you?
3. Regret is worse than failure. Keep trying even if people tell you you're crazy.
4. People don't always know what they want. Find the need your customer didn't know existed.
5. True innovation improves the human experience.
