4 Great Health Tips from Executive Coach Jenny Evans

When it comes to dealing with workplace stress, there's only so much you can do to change your environment, your job or the people you work with. The following resiliency training strategies rely on changing something you CAN control - your physiology - to successfully deal with stress and improve your performance.
- Take 60 seconds. Short bursts of intense physical activity mimic the fight or flight response and restore balance. Find a set of stairs to sprint up and down a couple of times, or do some jumping jacks.
- Work it out. A cardiovascular interval training workout takes short bursts to the next level. It also trains the body to recover from stress more quickly and efficiently as well as raises your threshold for stress.
- Take frequent snack breaks. Eat several small meals and snacks throughout the day to manage blood glucose levels. When levels get too low stress hormones are secreted that diminish cognitive functions like concentration, memory, and focus and increases impatience and negativity.
- Minimize caffeine, nicotine and alcohol. It's easy to reach for these when feeling stressed out, but all of these substances release stress hormones. Keep them to a minimum or find suitable replacements.
