Share your joy of reading with your daughter, niece, grandaughter or some other girl who is important in your life. For girls in grades 3 - 7. Come to the library to pick up the first book and read it in time for the first book discussion on Thursday, June 27 at 10am.

Office 2013 & Windows8 ClassesFriday daytime computer classes continue in June. Click on the link for information about Windows 8 for Novice series or Intro to Office 2013. Classes run from 10am-12pm and 12:30-2.30pm  
French Classes With Christine Garnier 
french language courses
  
French language classes begin on June 25 and run through July 18. Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursday from 4-5:30pm. A text book is required. Details are available online.
  
You can also begin to learn French or many other languages with the library's Transparent Language Online Learning Language program. Use your library card number to access the site.
  
Apple, Adobe ID and OverDrive
OverDrive Media Console App
 
At the end of May, OverDrive, which provides our patrons with ebooks, released a new mobile Media Console app for Apple devices (iPad, iPod and iPhone) as a result of changes to Apple's Privacy Policies. The new Media Console deauthorizes license security software Adobe ID without which you will not be able to download new books. Fortunately, the new app also provides prompts for the re-authorization of Adobe ID. More information.

Hosted by National Geographic's Jamie Shreeve, the site includes thought-provoking essays, reader feedback, and an ongoing conversation about the very broad and deep world of science.

I'm Still Here: Back Online After a Year Without the Internet - On April 30, 2012, The Verge tech writer, Paul Miller, left the internet that he thought was making him an unproductive. In this article he details his year long journey without the internet and the surprising conclusions he developed about the internet's part in the real world and staying connected with those around you.


David Dean Interview - David Dean, former Avalon Chief of Police, award winning short story mystery writer and novelist, will be speaking at the library on July 11 at 7pm. Recently, Linda Duffy, the library's program coordinator conducted an interview with Mr. Dean.


The History and Government of Delaware by John Munroe - The University of Delaware Library brings together several hundred years of Delaware history in this television series from 1963. This 15-part series is narrated by the late John A. Munroe. Professor Munro was a son of Delaware who taught at the university for decades and wrote dozens of books and articles on the Blue Hen State.  Each segment is about 30 minutes long.
