June 19, 2016
:

Today, I invite you to read Judges 20.  Having learned of the atrocity committed in Gibeah, all of the remaining tribes of Israel gather together to respond.  Gibeah was in the tribe of Benjamin and because that tribe had not acted to bring the residents of Gibeah who had committed the atrocity to justice, the guilt of Gibeah was now the guilt of Benjamin.  While the the other tribes go through the motions of seeking the Lord's counsel, the results of the first two days of battle call into question whether they have truly sought His counsel and then follow it.  The response of the other tribes nearly annihilates the tribe of Benjamin.  The nation of Israel has not been unified by their devotion to the Lord, but rather in response to the evil perpetrated in Gibeah and the desire for revenge.  The book of Judges is moving toward its conclusion showing a people who are without a spiritual or moral rudder drifting aimlessly and being weakened as a people.  What are the lessons in this for us as a people?

In Christ,

June 19 Prayer Focus -- Seeking God's Counsel

Lord, when we declare that we are seeking your counsel, help us to truly wait upon you and seek you with all of our hearts.  Teach us to know your voice and to follow in the path you have established.  In Jesus' name. Amen.

Read today's devotional in The Upper Room.

Please pray for the following needs:

Jennifer Curtis & Patti Tessier -- Jennifer Curtis, the daughter of Don and Patti Tessier, asks for your prayers as she and the rest of the family moves through a season of transition following Don's passing.  Jennifer and her husband, Ray, have moved in with Patti to care for her.  They are in the midst of packing up Don's belongings, thoroughly cleaning the home and resettling other members of the family to other locations.  This week is a critical week as everything has to be brought to conclusion by Friday.  Jennifer invites any one who would be willing to sit with Patti (to enable Jennifer to address other needs) or assist in packing up Don's office at any time during the week to contact her at 540-207-2833.

Virginia Annual Conference --
The conference concludes this morning and then the approximately 3,000 people in attendance begin their journeys home.  Pray for safe travels.

Wilderness Community Church -- Pray that we would make the most of every opportunity to count for God in these days and that we would be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit so that we might serve our neighbors in the Spirit's power.  Ephesians 5:16-20.
Wilderness Community Church exists to introduce people to Jesus Christ and help them become His fully devoted followers.
