:

Today, I invite you to read Judges 18.  The tribe of Dan had failed to take possession of its land when the Israelites were led into the promised land by Joshua.  Now, years later, they seek to recover what they had never possessed because of their rebellion against God.  First, they send spies into the territory, who don't seek God, but devise a scheme to take advantage of people who are living peacefully.  These spies bring a large contingent of armed men and first take advantage of Micah's hospitality by stealing his idols and his "personal" priest.  The pursuit of idolatry continues and flourishes in the Northern Kingdom.  These are the seeds of full blown idolatry which we witness later at the time of Israel's exile.  Without the Lord's blessing, they also destroy the city of those who live in the region, again seeking to manipulate God in their own strength.  While they were filled with confidence, their actions are very foolish.  Filled with arrogance and pride, they reject God and His ways.

In Christ,

June 17 Prayer Focus -- Resting In God

Lord, too often we run ahead of you, seeking to impose our agendas on the events which unfold around us.  You invite us to be vitally connected to you so that we can receive your good gifts as we walk in the way you have established.  Help us to both discern and know your plans so that we may obediently follow you, experience your provision and rest.  In Jesus' name. Amen.

Read today's devotional in The Upper Room.

Please pray for the following needs:

Terry Jarrells --
Give thanks for Terry's recovery from surgery to remove his toe because of diabetes-related infection.  For the first time in over a year, he has been able to place a shoe on that foot.  Pray for him to gain strength as he has a lot of strength during his battle with various medical issues over the last 12-16 months.

Ken Baker -- Continue to pray for Ken as he navigates life post-chemotherapy.  He continues to battle fatigue which is common in the aftermath of intense chemotherapy.  Ken is participating in a physical therapy program in which he builds stamina.  Pray for strength and complete recovery.

Brenda & David Ramsey -- Brenda continues to undergo breathing treatments at Mary Washington Hospital.  The doctor wants her lungs to be as clear as possible before releasing her.  David is also now being treated for bronchitis at home.  Pray for God's healing for both of them.  Brenda appreciates those who have called and visited.  She is getting just a little tired of the hospital.

Virginia Annual Conference -- Pray for the delegates to the Virginia Annual Conference begins today in Roanoke.  The clergy of the conference meet in executive session to vote on various matters related to the status of specific individuals (ordination, consecration and conference relationship) and then the conference (clergy and laity) will convene and take up its first business.  Later this evening, the Evangelical Fellowship of Virginia will hold its annual dinner with Dr. Bill Arnold from Asbury Theological Seminary speaking.  Pray for God's activity amongst the delegates attending the conference.
