92 POINTS Wine & Spirits Magazine YEARS BEST US CABERNET
"Powerful and broad shouldered, this robust cabernet shows a softer side with air, bringing scents of cedar frond and gravelly minerality to go with the dark black cherry fruit. The flavors are weight, but acidity courses through to lend them structure. Give it time to mature, then serve with lamb." Patrick Comiskey, August 2015

"Readers looking for a killer value in Washington State Syrah need look no further than the 2012 Columbia Valley Syrah. Incorporating 20% Grenache and raised in mostly neutral oak, it gives up loads of dark, meaty Syrah fruit, new leather, licorice and roasted-herb qualities to go with a medium to full-bodied, layered, elegant profile on the palate. While not skimping a bit on fruit, it has integrated acidity, fine tannin and a clean finish. Drink it anytime over the coming 5-6 years." Jeb Dunnuck, June 2015

90 POINTS Wine Enthusiast
"L'Ecole tackles, with great success, two of the least-recognized strengths of Washington viticulture: Semillon and Chenin Blanc. Here the blend includes 13% Sauvignon Blanc. It's well built, full bodied, with a mix of citrus and stone fruits, generous acidity, and some finishing skin flavors putting a slightly bitter frame around it." Paul Gregutt, November 2013

90 POINTS Wine Enthusiast
"This wine comes from an assortment of top sites across the Columbia Valley and it shows. Aromas of dried herbs, pencil lead, toasty spice and blue and red fruit lead to sweet, rich and appealing flavors. There's intensity but also a good sense of acid and chalky tannic structure backing things up, along with undeniable deliciousness." Sean Sullivan, July 2015

A few words about L'Ecole No.41
|
Founded in 1983 by Jean and Baker Ferguson, L'Ecole No. 41 is the 3rd oldest winery in Washington state's Walla Walla Valley. It remains a family owned operation with current owners Megan & Marty Clubb, daughter and son-in-law of the Fergusons. L'Ecole No. 41 plays a major part in the winery's identity. It is an old schoolhouse built in 1915 and located in historic Frenchtown, a small community just west of Walla Walla, Washington. Frenchtown derived its name from the many French-Canadians who settled the valley during the early 1800s. Legend has it, these men of French descent were raising grapes and producing wine. By the 1860s, nurseries, vineyards and winemaking had become a part of the regions' growing economy. The name - L'Ecole N 41 French for "the school" located in district number 41 - was chosen to salute these pioneer viticulture efforts. The winery is currently producing about 30,000 cases annually. It produces several varietals: Semillon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon and now new to the Alberta market, Chenin Blanc. L'Ecole No. 41 is at the forefront of sustainable farming in the Walla, Walla Valley. Co-owner & managing winemaker Marty Clubb has been a great ambassador for Washington State wine through his work with both the Washington Wine Commission and the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance.
