"Well-rendered, with a solid spine of graphite holding the blackberry paste, warm fig and fruitcake notes together, while singed apple wood and anise details fill in the background. Still a bit gutsy through the finish, so cellar to let this soften and meld fully. Best from 2016 through 2024. 550 cases made." JM, November 2014

"A tag team effort between legendary Rhône families, Jaboulet from the north and Perrin from the south has resulted in a collaboration focussed on small-batch wines sourced from top growers and sub-appellations around the region.  The Syrah offers classic earthy, meaty character loaded with spice, while the Viognier fleshes things out with a splash of stone fruit.  Grill up some lamb and go to town."  Kurtis Kolt

"We want eventually a range that is representative of the very best of the northern Rhone" - Nicolas Jaboulet of Nicolas Perrin
About Nicolas Perrin
Marc Perrin and Nicolas Jaboulet
The story of Maison Nicolas Perrin is that of two families who come from the two opposite ends of the Rhone valley, North and South.

In the North, Nicolas Jaboulet, who grew up on the hillsides of Hermitage, and the Perrin family who has been in the southern Rhone, primarily in the prestigious appellation of Chateauneuf du pape, since the beginning of the 20th century.

This geographical reunion finds its meaning in the phrase "Axis Mundi." These latin words stand for the 4 cardinal points and symbolize the Cotes de Rhone region divided between the Northern (Septentrional) and the Southern (Meridional) appellations and right and left banks of the Rhone river.

They produce small quantities of wines, between 3 to 12 000 bottles, selected from vines of key appellations across the Northern Rhone or sourcing them from the barrels of top vignerons as well as from family and friends they have known for years. The wines are then matured and aged in the cellars of the Perrin family in Orange before bottling.

The first vintage was 2006 Ermitage red and 2007 Côte-Rotie, Saint-Joseph reds as well as 2008 Hermitage Blanc. All these wines received great reviews from the best journalists.
