This outstanding red wine is a quite recent expression of Argiano's viticultural potential in relation to red wines made with Sangiovese. 'Solengo', which is Tuscan for "lone wild boar", is the product of the combination between Tuscan soil and French grape-varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Syrah. It is the fruit of the "creation" of the internationally acclaimed former oenologist Giacomo Tachis, which now continues with the work of Argiano's team.

96 Points The Wine Advocate

"The 2010 Solengo shows the pedigree of this great vintage. Violets, tar, smoke, licorice and plums burst from the glass. Vibrantly nuanced and beautifully articulated, the 2010 impresses for its striking balance and refined, sophisticated personality. This is one of the very best Solengos I can remember tasting. The style is rich and highly expressive, but with no excess weight. In 2010, Solengo is 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, 20% Merlot and 10% Syrah. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030."

About Argiano

At the summit of a wonderful hill, south-west of Montalcino, stands the magnificent Villa of Argiano. The villa was built in the Renaissance era between 1561 and 1596 by the Peccis family, a noble family from Siena.

The estate changed hands many times from the 16th centrury until it was purchase by Lady Ersilia Caetani Lovatelli, who succeeded in introducing and promoting Argiano's wines in the finest cultural circles of the time. In 1992, the Estate again change hands when it was purchased by Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano in 1992. She grew up in vineyards belonging to her family and after traveling the world decided to purchase Argiano and make the estate her own. She began working with the internationally acclaimed oenologist Giacomo Tachis, a partnership which led to the birth of the Supertuscan Solengo; the cultivation of the Sangiovese vineyards was expanded, and the cellars were renovated and modernised.
Most recently, in 2013 Argiano was purchase by a group of Braziallian Businessmen.

Argiano's vineyards are blessed with a fortunate micro-climate and enviable position both of which contribute to favourable development of the grapes. The close proximity of Argiano to Monte Amiata, one of Tuscany's highest peaks, shelters the area from bad weather. This enables Argiano to produce year after year high profile and consistently good vintages known for their incredible drinkability and ageability.
