"Packed with dark plum, warm currant confiture and blackberry coulis flavors, this is lined with charcoal, singed bay leaf and steeped dark olive notes. The long finish reveals a terrific graphite spine. Built for the cellar. Best from 2015 through 2030. 150 cases made." - JM

Please note the rating is for the 2010 vintage, the 2011 vintage has not yet been rated.

The colour is not as intense as in 2007. The nose is very rich on notes of black and red fruit. The nose then turns more complex and intense. In the mouth the tannins appear quite powerful and need to be left to soften a bit.

"Densely packed with blackberry paste, roasted fig, blueberry pâte de fruit and linzer torte flavors, but they are defined and racy, with a strong graphite spine giving support and driving the finish, where anise and charcoal notes chime in. Shows lovely drive and persistence. Best from 2015 through 2030. 234 cases made." - JM

The dark colour shows a good concentration. The nose is a bit closed when first opened but after airing, aromas of black fruit and spices appear. The mouth is silky, elegant and very flattering. The finish is long and shows that the wine has plenty of life in it.

About the 2011 vintage in the Northern Rhône
MAISON NICOLAS PERRIN Vineyards
MAISON NICOLAS PERRIN Vineyards
After 2010 (a very balanced vintage) and 2009 (a powerful vintage), 2011 offered plenty fruit, freshness and body. Besides a hot spring and early flowering, the summer was relatively cold and wet and the advance made was caught up. During the month of September, the sun dominated most of the time and the maturity was progressive. The crop came in continuously up until the first days of October for the plots of higher elevation and needed more time to reach perfect maturity. The crop was healthy, the grapes of good quality and the quantities were plentiful.

"We want eventually a range that is representative of the very best of the northern Rhone" - Nicolas Jaboulet of Nicolas Perrin
About Nicolas Perrin
Marc Perrin and Nicolas Jaboulet
The story of Maison Nicolas Perrin is that of two families who come from the two opposite ends of the Rhone valley, North and South.

In the North, Nicolas Jaboulet, who grew up on the hillsides of Hermitage, and the Perrin family who has been in the southern Rhone, primarily in the prestigious appellation of Chateauneuf du pape, since the beginning of the 20th century.

This geographical reunion finds its meaning in the phrase "Axis Mundi." These latin words stand for the 4 cardinal points and symbolize the Cotes de Rhone region divided between the Northern (Septentrional) and the Southern (Meridional) appellations and right and left banks of the Rhone river.

They produce small quantities of wines, between 3 to 12 000 bottles, selected from vines of key appellations across the Northern Rhone or sourcing them from the barrels of top vignerons as well as from family and friends they have known for years. The wines are then matured and aged in the cellars of the Perrin family in Orange before bottling.

The first vintage was 2006 Ermitage red and 2007 Côte-Rotie, Saint-Joseph reds as well as 2008 Hermitage Blanc. All these wines received great reviews from the best journalists.
