A bit darker on the nose than the grand crus from Gevrey-Chambertin, offering explosive aromas of crushed raspberry, black cherry, exotic spices and a touch of smoke. Compellingly rich and seamless in the mouth, with terrific sappy verve to the urgent flavors of red berries, minerals and game. The very long, slowly rising finish boasts outstanding energy and thrust and saturates the mouth with sweet perfume." January 2013

"2011 Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley: As is usually the case with this wine when it's young, the nose is restrained to the point of being almost mute though aggressive swirling liberates aromas of earth, spice, red currant and hints of the sauvage. And instead of the robust and well-muscled mid-palate there is an almost caressing mouth feel to the full-bodied yet refined flavors because while the supporting tannins are definitely firm and dense they are also quite finely-grained. There is excellent length to the moderately austere, tight, focused and linear finish that delivers outstanding persistence." January 2013

A discreet hint of wood allows the slightly riper and definitely more sauvage aromas of earth, humus, dark berries and soft spice notes to shine. There is excellent power to the robust and broad-shouldered flavors that also brim with structure-buffering dry extract that coats the palate on the mineral-driven, punchy and seriously persistent finish. A strikingly cool, restrained and very floral nose also offers up superbly elegant red currant and wet stone nuances where the latter element completely suffuses the medium weight flavors that possess a lovely sense of underlying tension on the focused, precise and driving finish. There is plenty of mouth coating dry extract but even so, this is presently austere to the point of being Cistercian and as such note well that plenty of patience will be required as this is very firmly structured." There is very solid mid-palate concentration to the larger-scaled flavors that possess an admirable amount of structure buffering dry extract before culminating in an energetic, balanced, complex and impressively long finish that displays only mild rusticity. This is excellent, indeed it's one the better vintages that I have seen for this wine. Recommended." January 2013

DOMAINE FAIVELEY
Founded in 1825, Domaine Faiveley is in a rare position in Burgundy of being a major vineyard owner with more than 120 hectares and 80% of their wines coming from family owned vineyards.
In December 2004, there was a change of the guard when Francois Faiveley stepped down and handed the reins of the company over to his son, Erwan. In a span of 8 years, Erwan has made some important changes in viticulture, vinification and maturation of the wines.
Historically based in the Côte de Nuits capital, the Faiveley family has progressively extended its domaine and today owns vineyards in the finest climats in Burgundy - Gevrey-Chambertin, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet, Mercurey and others. The vineyards are very small, averaging 1 hectare per appellation.
Faiveley produces from more than 10 hectares of Grand Crus and nearly 25 hectares of Premier Crus, including several plots that are exclusively owned by the family.
