GRATAVINUM
One of the most magical settings in Spain, Priorat lies in the rugged hills of the north-eastern region, Catalonia, near the Mediterranean coast just south of Barcelona. With over seventy years in the wine business the Cusiné Family of Parés Baltá, Penedes saw the potential of Priorat and partnered with winemaker Jordi Fernandez in 2003 to produce Gratavinum.
Gratavinum's vineyards consist of 17 hectares of old vine Carignan and Grenache that are typical of Priorat as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, all of which have adapted well to the poor soil and harsh climate of Priorat. The entire vineyard is organically grown and non-irrigated. The name "Gratavinum" is a combination of the local village name (Gratallops) where the winery is located and the word "Vinum", translating to "wine" in Latin. 2πR is the mathematical equation for the circumference of a circle. The winery's goal is to make a round wine with its Gratavinum 2πR
Gratavinum 2πR is aged for 12 months in new oak barrels and second year of French and Hungarian oak. Gratavinum reveals gorgeous aromas of black raspberries, cherries, currants, crushed rocks, and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied and powerful, with sweet tannin, beautiful purity, and good acidity, it is an impressive, world-class wine that can be drunk young or cellared for 10-12 years. It is big, but also refreshing and rich.
