92 POINTS Natalie MacLean

"Juicy and full-bodied with huge purple and black plums and fleshy blackberries. Great price."  September 2012

92 POINTS Wine Advocate

"The 2009 Malbec spent 16 months in 60% new French oak. It displays a fragrant perfume of lavender, wood smoke, spice box, black cherry, and blackberry leading to a smooth-textured, succulent, easygoing Malbec with a bit of hidden structure and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Although it is likely to evolve for 1-2 years, it can be approached now and over the next 10 years. Luca is the personal project of Renaissance woman Laura Catena, M.D."  Jay Miller, December 2010

90 POINTS Wine Align

"Harvested from rock strewn soils in Argentina's highest vineyard at 4,700 feet, this is a full bodied, deep yellow chardonnay. The nose is even, complex and rich but not overtly showy, with well integrated pineapple/peach, crème brule, herbs/evergreen. It's full bodied, quite rich, creamy and hot on the finish, with tobacco smoke. It's big and powerful . . . Excellent to outstanding length. Tasted September 2012."  David Lawrason,  September 2012

Laura Catena isn't just a practicing emergency-room physician with degrees from Harvard and Stanford; she's also the president at Catena Zapata, her father's groundbreaking Argentine winery.  She somehow finds time to make wine under her own label using formerly untapped vineyard sites to produce some of Argentina's top artisanal wines.  Named for her oldest son, Luca is the first brand dedicated to showing the potential of Argentina's old vines.

About the Winemaker

Luis Reginato, winemaker for Luca Wines since 2002 was born in Altamira, La Consulta, son of a sparkling wine producer. He studied Agronomy at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Argentina's most prestigious viticulture program, and is devoted to the land and wines of Mendoza. Although he travels around the world to tell the story of Luca Wines, he prefers to spend his time in the vineyards with his wife and son Giovanni.
