Shaw + Smith began over a long lunch in 1989 when cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith decided to realize a long held dream to make wine together. They specialize in Sauvignon Blanc, a single vineyard Chardonnay, cool climate Shiraz and more recently small batches of Riesling and Pinot Noir.

It's hard to believe that 2009 is the 20th vintage at Shaw + Smith. In the first vintage grapes were sourced from Geoff Hardy's Adelaide Hills and Greg Trott provided some tank space at Wirra Wirra to make the wine. Shaw and Smith now has vineyards at both Woodside and Balhannah, a wonderful winery and tasting facility at the latter site and they now export to 17 countries.

Their goal has always been the same - to make exciting modern cool climate wines that rank amongst

Australia's best. Sauvignon Blanc has been the back bone of the business but in recent years both the M3 Chardonnay and Shiraz have been rated highly both domestically and internationally.
