BODEGAS SAN ALEJANDRO
Founded in 1962 as a growers' co-operative, Bodegas San Alejandro (BSA) is located in the tiny town of Miedes, about 55 miles north of Madrid in the province of Zaragoza. Today, over 350 local growers farm 2,700 acres of vineyards in the Calatayud winegrowing region to supply the grapes used for Las RocasŪ wines.
The mountains of Calatayud soar to 3,500 ft, with shattered rock slopes that provide a home to some of the highest altitude Garnacha in Spain. Dry hot summers with intense sunlight lead to thicker skins and structured, flavorful wines. The cool mountain nights provide great acidity and old vines, ranging from 30 to 100 years old curtail the natural vigor of the Garnacha vine, yielding fewer grape clusters resulting in a rich concentration of color and flavor.
