We're saving your place in quilt history!
|
The year is quickly drawing to a close, and it's time to reflect and refuel. Please watch then share our 2016 Video Annual Report with your network of friends, family and colleagues, to see highlights of our activities and accomplishments this year, then visit our website to make a donation of any amount. Just like quilt stories, all contributions are valued and important to us.

Do you donate or purchase quilts to support a cause you care about?
We asked three Quilt Alliance board members to tell us about their personal history in regards to donating and collecting quilts. Allie Aller, Meg Cox and Lisa Ellis have each donated multiple quilts to the Quilt Alliance's annual contest, exhibition and auction. Find out where each artist makes their work, what they include on their quilt labels and what inspires them to purchase a quilt for their collection.

Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! 2016: A Year of Stories
|
Contributed by Emma Parker, Project Manager
It's hard to believe that we're approaching the fourth birthday of our newest project, Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! Since Go Tell It! started in 2012, we've collected over 300 stories of quilts and their makers at quilt shows, guild meetings, Quilt Alliance events and museums.
2016 was a great year to be behind the camera. The Go Tell It! interviews we captured this year truly highlight the depth and breadth of the quilting world. We talked to award-winning quilters on quilt-show floors, brand-new quilters, and quilt lovers who just wanted to share a special family quilt. We filmed over 80 interviews at QuiltCon in California and the International Quilt Festival in Houston, three small guilds in North Carolina, and supported the staff of the International Quilt Study Center and Museum (IQSCM) in Lincoln, Nebraska, as they filmed Go Tell It at the Museum! interviews in March.
The quilt stories I heard across the country this year remind us what an important place quilts hold in our lives. The voices in these interviews show just how many different things quilts can say, do, and mean.
| Go Tell It! video featuring Veronica Carlisle of Durham, NC |
In a video filmed at the IQSCM, Kristie Jarchow's quilt in remembrance of her mother tells us something about the power of quilts as memory keepers. Veronica Carlisle, member of the African-American Quilt Circle in Durham, NC reminds us how quilting can be a perfect outlet to try something new. Sherrell Cuneo's Sew the Seeds quilt project uses quilts as activism, bringing visibility to endangered species through quilting.
I know that ALL of you have quilt stories, too! Whether funny, bittersweet, triumphant or political, we want to hear them! In the new year, we'll be opening Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! to everyone. So save up your stories, and look for more news soon!

Top Ten Reasons to Give This Season
The best reason to give to the Quilt Alliance is so we can continue documenting, preserving and sharing the stories of quilts and their makers.
Cultural heritage insurance: when you provide a sustaining contribution to the Quilt Alliance, you ensure access to high-quality documentation of today's quilt stories.
Double your money: through December, all donations will be matched by one of the Quilt Alliance's generous foundation partners.
