Playing Favorites Contest Winners Announced
The 2016 Quilt Alliance quilt contest winners have been announced. Margaret Cibulsky of Port Washington, New York, is the winner of this year's Handi Quilter Grand Prize. Her quilt "My Garden," pictured at left, was made with improvisational piecing and machine detail. "The whole style of this quilt was an experiment," says Cibulsky in her artist's statement. "While my favorite way to make a quilt is improvisational piecing, I had never used this technique with the intention of using my work as the background for a natural scene. Another first was the free-cut blooms which I attached with raw-edge appliqu and then using some fancy stitches on my machine to create greenery. All in all, this little quilt is one of my favorites!" Read more.
Go Tell It at the Quilt Guild!
Have you ever watched a Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! video and thought "Hey! I have a quilt with a great story to tell"? Or thought of a friend's incredible work of art, or a family heirloom whose history you want to preserve?

Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! with Carol Beck
With help from a generous grant from the International Quilt Association, we're taking Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! to the streets! Starting this summer, the Quilt Alliance is piloting a new outreach project--Go Tell It at the Quilt Guild! It's open to guilds, community groups, museums, or anyone with a quilt story to share.

Groups interested in documenting their stories can receive free Go Tell It! training materials, rent an equipment kit with everything needed to document quilt stories, or, for a fee, bring Quilt Alliance staff on site to capture Go Tell It interviews with a group. The program makes it easy to document quilts and quiltmakers, producing video interviews that can be shared and preserved for generations to come. Here's a video from a recent visit to the African American Quilt Circle of Durham, NC of member Carol Beck sharing her haunting quilt 'Strange Fruit'.

And here is an interview collected on National Quilting Day at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with Judy Irvin and a family quilt she brought to the museum.

If your guild or community is interested in capturing and sharing the stories of your quilts, whether they're old or new, 3D art quilts or well-worn bed quilts, hand-sewn or long-armed, get in touch! We'd love to hear from you--just send us an email at qsos@quiltalliance.org.
