Quilt Alliance Presents New Website

www.QuiltAlliance.org
Asheville, North Carolina, April 6, 2016

The Quilt Alliance announces the launch of a new website, created to showcase the nonprofit's projects, partnerships, and extended community. The Quilt Alliance, founded in 1993, brings together the creative, scholarly, and business worlds of quiltmaking to celebrate and preserve our shared quilt heritage and inspire today's quilters. The Alliance documents, preserves, and shares the stories of quilts and quiltmakers.

The new website, at www.QuiltAlliance.org, was designed to be intuitive and accessible, while taking advantage of the incredibly visual medium of quilts. Each year, the Quilt Alliance holds an annual quilt contest, and thanks to the generosity of participants, has a cache of stunning images of quilts displayed on the new website. Providing a forum to share the quilts entered and donated for the contest is another way the nonprofit records and presents the range and depth of work being made by today's quiltmakers.

The new site allows videos from the short form oral history project, Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! to be easily shared. Go Tell It! videos have a simple formula: "One person talking about one quilt in front of one camera for three minutes--another quilt story shared!" Later this year, individuals everywhere will be able to upload a three-minute Go Tell It! video to the Quilt Alliance website, thus fulfilling a grassroots goal of the project--to capture the stories of quilts where quiltmakers gather.

Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories (QSOS), the Quilt Alliance's seventeen-year-old long form oral history project, is also showcased on the new website. At this time, a small number of sample interviews are shared, but soon access to the entire collection will be restored. A group of Alliance board and staff are advancing a plan to integrate audio from the QSOS interviews to better showcase these remarkable stories of quiltmakers. For now, users can explore a selection of interviews and stay tuned for a new means of sharing this core project.

Whether it is exploration of Quilt Alliance projects, tickets to events, contest entry forms, information about volunteering and membership, or updates from the Quilt Alliance blog, visitors can easily access what they seek.

The Alliance welcomes feedback on its new site, and plans to continue to adapt and improve its resources on this new platform. Please email us with your input at information@quiltalliance.org.
