The Quilt Alliance will be recording 3-minute videos for the Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! oral history project at QuiltCon presented by the Modern Quilt Guild in Austin, Texas from February 19-22, 2015.
We invite quilters whose work will be on exhibit at QuiltCon, or those who would like to bring a quilt to the Quilt Alliance booth (#936) to tell us the story of their quilts. Registration for interviews is first come-first served and interested quilters can reserve their spot here.

Go Tell It! is a project of the nonprofit Quilt Alliance designed to capture the stories of quilts where quiltmakers and quilt lovers gather. The protocol for Go Tell It! is brief and personal: one person talking about one quilt in front of one video camera for three minutes, recording the most essential and compelling details of the quilt according to the "teller."
The Quilt Alliance launched the project
in June 2012 at the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in Raleigh, North Carolina. More than 150 videos have been recorded since then, including seven interviews conducted at the 2013 QuiltCon in Austin, Texas. Watch them on the Quilt Alliance YouTube channel here: www.youtube.com/quiltalliance
"Quilt shows are the perfect place to capture stories amidst the excitement of prizes won and new techniques revealed, and this was especially true at QuiltCon 2013. Along with thousands of others, Alliance staffers were excited to witness the debut of a new quilt show highlighting the fast-growing modern quilt movement," says Meg Cox, Alliance president.
To date, Alliance staff, board and corporate partners have conducted the video interviews, but eventually, quilt lovers everywhere will be invited to document the stories of quilts with video equipment as simple as a smart phone, and upload them to the Go Tell It! archives for all to see and use.

Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! interviewees don't have to be the maker of the quilt they bring--the can also be the quilt's owner, recipient, admirer, or a museum curator or collector. There is no set topic or questions asked during the interview, so interviewees can talk about anything from their color and design choices, family history, a funny story about the quilt, or what that quilt means to them.
Anyone attending QuiltCon--whether they have a quilt in the show or want to bring one for the purpose of the interview--can sign up for a three-minute Go Tell It! interview. Alliance staff will create a schedule of interview times during QuiltCon and share it with interviewees prior to the start of the show.
While there is no formal charge for Go Tell It! interviews, the nonprofit Alliance does ask interviewees to make a suggested donation of $10 and/or become a Quilt Alliance member at the time of their interview to help cover costs of the recording. The Quilt Alliance will edit each video and post them to its YouTube page. Interviewees can share the video with friends and family, add it to their own websites, and portfolios, or use it to promote their work, techniques, classes or patterns.
Alliance staff will contact all those who register online by February 13 with the time and date for their interview by February 16. The Quilt Alliance also needs volunteers to staff the Quilt Alliance booth. Sign up to volunteer here or contact qsos@quiltalliance.org for more information about Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! or volunteering during QuiltCon. |
