Holiday Quilts and Stories
|
Whether you are just putting the binding on this year's holiday quilt, in search of ideas for your 2014 seasonal project, or just love quilts and their stories (isn't that why you subscribe to this newsletter?), I have two blog posts to inspire you. First, on the Quilt Alliance blog, we recently featured four Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories (Q.S.O.S.) interviewees and their holiday-themed quilts. From Resna Ximines Hammer's Jewish ceremonial cloths to Liz Joe's "Wise Men Still Seek Him," you'll get a story snippet from four different quiltmakers documented via our Q.S.O.S. oral history project. The full interviews are presented on our website and the original audio recording, transcript and photos are archived in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. |

The second post I'd like to share is from the Quilt Index blog. The Quilt Index website now contains over 54,000 records of quilts (and quilt-related ephemera and journals) from four centuries! Search the word "Christmas" and you'll find 811 records of quilts made all over the U.S. and abroad, from the 1800's to the 2000's. We've picked some beauties for you to enjoy in our post, and to search through these holiday quilts yourself, just visit the Quilt Index home page and type the word Christmas in the search box in the top right corner, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Quilt Search! |
