There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays!

The fourth and final week of our eBay auction of the "Home Is Where the Quilt Is" contest quilts will end on Monday, December 10 at 9 pm Eastern. Eight quilts have bids of $100 or more and the top bid for Jamie Fingal's "Home Is Where Your Story Begins" (pictured below) is more than $1,600! The remaining quilts are currently available for $50-$100. Don't miss out on this last chance to bid on a unique, handmade wall quilt and bring it home for someone special (like you!). You'll be taking care of holiday shopping and supporting the work of the Quilt Alliance, all in one fell swipe.
Home_Jamie Fingal
Home Is Where Your Story Begins by Jamie Fingal. "Having experienced the loss of both parents in four months, I have traveled a bittersweet road, as I sorted through their household possessions. Throughout this time, I find solace in writing. I honor the things I have chosen to keep, as they remind me who I am and where I came from. Through love and loss, we go on creating our own stories." Bid on this quilt now.

Here are some of the quilts still in the $50-$100 range in our "Home" quilts eBay auction:
Bali on My Mind by Merikay Waldvogel. "My house quilt started out as a stained glass window in my great great grandmother's house. As I worked with the batiks and hand-dyed material, I couldn't quite capture the light coming through the window. Instead, memories of my trip to Bali flooded my mind, and that little house quilt became my "Bali House". This is my fourth year to enter the Alliance contest - not bad for someone who doesn't quilt." Bid on this quilt now.
Home quilts: Alice Helms
Home Tweet Home by Alice Helms. "When I looked at the house shape, I saw a birdhouse and let myself imagine that birds might enjoy having quilts in their "homes" too." Bid on this quilt now.
AmyMunson_Home
Bricks Mortar Fabric Thread by Amy Munson. "Just as bricks and mortar are the foundation of a home; fabric and thread are the foundation of a quilt." Bid on this quilt now.

PeggySchroder_home
Dream Studio by Peggy Schroder. "Welcome to my future studio! I created this space using a program that allows me to design architectural renderings. It will soon become a new addition to our home. The process can be compared to making a quilt ... design, edit, add and delete. Recently it has undergone a major change. Note the stamp of approval and the plans that sit on the cutting table." Bid on this quilt now.
EleanorLevie_Home
Coffee House by Eleanor Levie. "My creativity runs on coffee, and quilting is the way I espresso myself! I'm a green gal, so I drink fair trade coffee, and I built my house with a trash stash of coffee bags and teabag wrappers. Come in and smell the coffee: as diligent as I was in cleaning the used packaging, I'm sure some grounds remain. Let your mini-me sit down and share some coffee and quilting conversation with me!" Bid on this quilt now.
YvonnePorcella_Home
Yippee I'm Free! by Yvonne Porcella. "Susanna is my name, born in the Twentieth Century, lovingly made by hand, Anonymous was my mother. I'm old, memory of previous owners is cloudy, twice someone pierced my background with machine stitching. Purchased by an Art Quilter (what?), she kept me in a closet with a fine collection of antique underwear buttons, waiting to do her magic and recycle me. Now I can have a new life and home. Please Pick Me!"

Happy Weekend, everyone!
On this day in history_Hawaiian quilt
Today I posted the stunning Hawaiian applique quilt pictured above on the Quilt Index's Facebook page to remember the Attack on Pearl Harbor (December 7, 1941). This quilt was made by Harriet Momilani Kimseu Soong in 1997. Seven of Harriet's quilts are documented in The Quilt Index as part of the Michigan State University Museum collection. Harriet's eulogy, written by her son Carlton "Carl" Soong is included in this quilt record: While in seminary, Pearl Harbor was bombed and the student in the next room had a radio (which was forbidden at the time); and they listened to the news secretly. When it was announced in an assembly at the seminary, there were at least two students who already knew.

With love and gratitude,

Amy
