THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO DISPLAY YOUR CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES AT THE PRESTIGIOUS APG GALLERY!
BUCKHEAD . . . . . Have you ever thought you might have the opportunity to have your images hung in the same gallery with renowned fellow photographers? The annual APG Push Pin Show is the occasion you've been waiting for! Every year the gallery, home to numerous critically acclaimed exhibitions, and located in the booming Tula Arts Center building, adjacent to MOCA-GA, opens its doors to existing and new members, allotting each artist approximately a 600 square inch space (about 20 inches by 30 inches), to display their work. Images may not be matted or framed, and may be priced for sale. Image dimensions are up to the artists - perhaps one large image, or maybe several smaller images, as long as the 600 square inch image space allotment is not exceeded.
For this year's event we are thrilled to have "Suburban Angst" back to play live music, mostly modern rock favorites and deeper cuts, in the atrium during the show! Doors to open at 7:30. * Please note....
- This event is free to current members, and to photographers who join APG on the night of the show. If you've been thinking of joining APG, now is the perfect time! (Check out the other great benefits of membership here.)
- Only APG members can hang prints. The annual APG membership is $35 ($25 for students)
- $10 fee for anyone who is not an APG member. If you are not an APG member, but would still like to come hang out, enjoy the gallery, music, beer, wine and pizza, we would LOVE to have you!
NEW THIS YEAR! This year party goers can vote for their favorite prints. Top two winners will be announced in all the APG outlets (website, newsletter, Facebook, etc) and, if they decide to enter Choice, they get first pick of their wall space! Save time and click on the link here to print your labels before you come to Push Pin!
|
**In conjunction with APG's exhibition, Fall Line Press is having a Push Pin show of their own. The show will feature the work of Shannon Davis, Maury Gortemiller, Carl Martin and Anderson Scott. Stop by to check out the new look of Fall Line space, support these artists and browse some titles from our reading library.

SPEAKING OF PHOTOGRAPHY
"FINDING VIVIAN MAIER" WITH TONY CASADONTE Wednesday, February 18, 7:30PM
|
|
With a nod to the upcoming Oscars, we will be screening Oscar-nominated documentary "Finding Vivian Maier". (Awards will be aired on Sunday, February 22nd.) "Finding Vivian Maier" is the critically acclaimed documentary about a mysterious nanny who secretly took over 100,000 photographs that were hidden in storage lockers and discovered decades later. This discovery now places her among the 20th century's greatest photographers. Directed by John Maloof and Charlie Siskel, Maier's strange and riveting life and art are revealed through never before seen photographs, films, and interviews, with dozens who thought they knew her. INTERVIEW WITH PHOTOGRAPHER, VIRGINIA TWINAM SMITH
|
|
Artist Virginia Twinam Smith is a long time member and exhibiting photographer with Atlanta Photography Group. In 2012, she generously sponsored APG's inaugural Print Purchase Award Program which is held in conjunction with APG's annual SELECTS exhibition. This program allows artists the opportunity to have their work selected for inclusion into the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of GA (MOCA GA).
In February 2014, Virginia sat for an interview with photographer Beate Sass and recounted her late start in photography and her keen interest in story-telling through her work. Her artistic journey takes her through film, darkroom, digital photography, photoshop and scanography -- each being a natural progression through technology or personal challenges. Read Virginia's story here.
