Juror Talk with Richard McCabe: Saturday, December 13, 11:00am

Please join us for the Portfolio Show 2014 opening. APG'S Annual call for entry is open to artists nationwide with prominent curators of photography from major museums serving as guest jurors. This year's exhibition was juried by Mr. Richard McCabe, Curator of Photography at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA. Mr. McCabe made his selections through a rigorous review of submissions from 10 states, consisting of over 1200 images! APG congratulates all the selected artists and welcomes Mr. McCabe's participation. Mr. McCabe will be in attendance at the opening.
In conjunction with this exhibition, APG is offering a purchase award to fund a potential acquisition of photographs for the permanent collection of the High Museum of Art. All participating artists are eligible and one may be selected to receive this prestigious award. Mr. Brett Abbott, Keough Family Curator of Photography and Head of Collections at the High Museum of Art, will select the potential recipient of the APG/HMA Purchase Award. The announcement will be made in the latter part of 2015.

APG CONGRATULATES ATLANTA-BASED PHOTOGRAPHER, BETH LILLY!

Earlier this year, Mr. Brett Abbott, Keough Family Curator of Photography and Head of Collections at the High Museum of Art, selected Atlanta GA-based Beth Lilly, PORTFOLIO 2013 exhibiting artist, as the 2013-14 recipient of APG's High Museum purchase award.

Brett Abbott: "I have great admiration for APG's contributions to the photography scene in Atlanta and for all its dedicated members - it has been nothing but a pleasure to work with them. We are delighted to have acquired Beth Lilly's evocative photographs for the High's collection and are incredibly appreciative of APG's innovative efforts to help grow the Museum's holdings for our community. The works proposed for acquisition here are drawn from Lilly's series "every single one of these stories is true," in which she states re-enactments of dreams and actual experiences from her past. Each of her images is paired with hand-written text, which is carefully crafted to engage viewers in the narrative process. Together, the images blur the line between reality and fiction, and meditate on the process of memory and storytelling. As such, they are a wonderful complement to our growing collection of contemporary photography, and particularly to our strong collection of work by Southern artists."
