ACP LECTURE SERIES: DAN WINTERS AT MOCA
FRIDAY - 10.10.14 | MOCA EXPANSION | 7:00 - 8:30PM
Dan Winters' sparkling 35-year career in photography has led to iconic photographs of some the world's most prominent people. But to call him a "celebrity photographer" wouldn't just miss the mark, it would ignore the breadth of his photographic projects and fascinations; from electron microscopes to drawing and collage. Winters' goal, to make the right image, whether the subject is the Space Shuttle or Brad Pitt, has been life-long -- which speaks to the seduction (and elusiveness) of making the perfect photograph.
Dan will discuss his work and the way in which his internal dialogue informs and shapes the way in which he approaches his photography. Dan's talk will stress thought and perception, and will act as a compendium to his 5th and most recent book, "Road to Seeing", published in 2014 by New Riders. Dan will field questions afterwards. LUCINDA BUNNEN SELECTS AT APG
APG GALLERY | SPECIAL 10.10 HOURS: 12:00 - 4:00PM & 8:30 - 9:30PM
Anomaly in Red © John S. Howe
|
Featuring the diverse work of 46 photographers, Selects was recently written up by Matthew Terrell at BURNAWAY.org. The article notes the work of several photographers in the show, including Anomaly in Red by John S. Howe.
An excerpt from the article...
"Lucinda Bunnen suspects that Atlanta photographers expect her to have traditional tastes. Grand matriarch of photographic philanthropy in the South (the High Museum dedicated a photographic gallery in her honor), she recently juried a show at Atlanta Photo Gallery as part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography. Despite seeing a lot of formulaic black-and-white photographs, Bunnen curated a show with much more avant-garde sensibilities.

The more than 60 works on view represent a gamut of creative photography--some look like paintings, some include rephotographed paintings, and some even look like gold-tinged etchings." READ MORE

THE ACP LECTURE SERIES: KAHN & SELESNICK
SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART & DESIGN | 1600 PEACHTREE ST | 4TH FLR, BLDG C
Wednesday, October 15: 7:00 - 8:30PM
|
Through photographs made at the crossroads of past & future, the collaborative artistic duo Nicholas Kahn & Richard Selesnick speculatively explore time's breadth; from a decidedly old-West-feeling future, to an expertly imagined, science-fiction past.
Kahn & Selesnick create work that's as boldly imaginative as it is grounded by fact. As hand-crafted and anachronistic as a flying machine, their work's idiosyncrasies are built with painstaking purpose in support of fantastic narratives, coaxing the viewer's imagination to soar.
Critically acclaimed, with over 100 solo and group exhibitions worldwide, their work appeals to wide swaths of culture. From steampunk circles to historian cartographers, their pictures have an openness that beckons and welcomes, inviting engagement from all.
