APG - MOCA/GA PRINT PURCHASE PROGRAM

In conjunction with SELECTS, two artists may have their work included in the permanent collection of the MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART OF GEORGIA. Through the generous gift of Virginia Twinam Smith, two $500.00 purchase awards are available for this program. Annette Cone-Skelton, President/CEO/Director of MOCA GA, will review the photos selected by Ms. Griffin during the APG Selects Exhibition. If Ms. Cone-Skelton would like to acquire works for the Museum's permanent collection, she has the option to include two artists. APG will then purchase the work from the artists and donate them to MOCA. To be eligible you must enter and have your work selected for the exhibition.

Submit 2 to 4 FRAMED photographs for review. Photographers selected for this show will have their work exhibited in the APG Gallery. Their names will be listed on the APG website along with an optional link to their web site, and promoted during Atlanta Celebrates Photography, an annual citywide highlight of photography. This is a great opportunity for first time entrants as well as experienced photographers. Show opens two weeks after submission!

Sheila Pree Bright will lecture about the evolutions of the Young Americans series  on the David T. Howard School by using the urban landscapes to connect with communities. This is a kick-off for Bright's 1960 Who street exhibition, which launches in October during the celebration of the Atlanta Student Movement exhibition at the Robert W. Woodruff Atlanta Library; Atlanta University Center and part of Elevate 2013, a public art experience produced by the City of Atlanta, Office of Cultural Affairs. This new series and campaign is inspired by the civil rights movement and activists such as, Lonnie King and Herman Russell, who are alumni of the Howard School and will appear in the street art project. Bright states, "The goal of the series is to show youth that all people faced bullies and overcame struggles. The intent of the street art campaign is to unite generations and inspire communities to create positive solutions for social change."

APG/HMA $2,500 PRINT PURCHASE AWARD

In conjunction with PORTFOLIO, ONE artist may have their work included in the permanent collection of the HIGH MUSEUM OF ART ATLANTA.

Brett Abbott, HMA Curator of Photography, will review the photos selected by Ms. Irvine. If Mr. Abbott would like to acquire work for the Museum's permanent collection, APG will purchase the work from the artist and donate them to HMA. To be eligible, you must enter and have your work selected for the exhibition.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists to have their work reviewed by museum curators, with the possibility of being collected by a major art institution.

PORTFOLIO will feature a body of work from each of the six to eight artists selected. We are looking for strong, cohesive bodies of work. The exhibit is open to any style, subject, or method that can be accommodated in our gallery. While there is no theme, images submitted should represent a single project, idea, story or vision. An artist statement and brief bio are strongly encouraged. Artists selected
will be listed by name and promoted on the APG website along with a link to their site.
