Lend Your Support Tonight,

Tonight, May 20, the Whitefish City Council will make a decision on whether to invest in structured parking along with a new City Hall at the corner of Baker and Second Street (the current site of City Hall).

There will be a public hearing during the council meeting, and you need to attend so that your voice is heard. The Council needs to hear from you!!

While some opposing the parking structure are calling for it to be put to a public vote, over seven years of data and professional study confirm that structured parking rather than surface lot parking is the best way to stimulate on-going investment and redevelopment in the downtown core area. It is time to move forward. We do not support putting this issue to a vote.

Please just come and simply voice support for these studies and encourage the city to move forward with this investment in structured parking.  Click here to view the city council packet with pictures and study results. Click here to email comments.

Crandall Arambula, the planners who helped us draft the original downtown plan, recently did a community presentation confirming that  the #1 Priority Catalyst Project from the Downtown Master Plan was to build a public parking facility to accommodate existing demand and future growth and that the best place to do that now is at the city hall location.

The City recently completed a Parking Structure feasibility study, which demonstrates that the Downtown operates at between 70% to 94% of parking capacity and with the future loss of the surface parking at Block 46 this gap in needed parking will grow even larger.

So please take time and show up for this opportunity to shape how downtown Whitefish develops. Invite your friends!

Sincerely,
Citizens for a Better Flathead
