Home For Thanksgiving, 1898 MMN #6890
The Thanksgiving holiday means different things to different people--a big feast, afternoon football games, the start of the holiday shopping season, a solemn time to reflect, a return to home and hearth. This exhibit shares a bit of the holiday's history and how it has been marked in Maine.

However you spend the day, we hope it's surrounded by family or friends. Best wishes for a safe and happy holiday--and, for your continued support of MHS, a great many thanks.

The Sea and Civilization: A Maritime History of the World
Speaker: Lincoln Paine

Portland resident Lincoln Paine takes us on a monumental tour of human history through the lens of the sea in his brand new book. The book reveals in depth how people first came into contact with one another by ocean and river, and how goods, languages, religions, and entire cultures spread across and along the world's waterways. A book sale and signing will follow the talk - a great holiday gift for that maritime enthusiast on your list!
