Online Exhibit:
A Town Is Born: South Bristol, 1915
| |
The Summit House Hotel in South Bristol village, ca. 1910 - MMN #79563
|
This new online exhibit by the South Bristol Historical Society, and fifth grade students from the South Bristol School, looks back nearly a century to the moment when South Bristol broke away from Bristol. Geography, economy, tourism, and infrastructure all played a part in the decision to separate the towns. Be sure to check out the slideshow that details the scope of the project, and how it was embedded in the school's curriculum.

Vintage Baseball Games at SMCC Athletic Fields, Fort Road, South Portland
Presented by MHS, Cape Elizabeth Historical Preservation Society, and South Portland Historical Society
Join us for vintage baseball games played according to the rules and customs of the 1860s. The teams are the Essex Base Ball Club of Massachusetts versus the Dirigo Vintage Base Ball Club of Augusta. These clubs were founded by people who love to play the game, and have a passion for baseball's compelling history.
Between games, spectators and families will have the opportunity to interact with players and ask questions. Bring a picnic, some chairs, and your friends for a fun afternoon!
Thanks to our sponsors Investment Management & Consulting Group and residential broker John Babin of Coldwell Banker.
