Of all the harbingers of spring, one of the tastiest is the newest crop of maple syrup. Here, some Good Will-Hinckley boys stand in front of the Maplecroft Sap House on the campus around 1945. Good Will-Hinckley, once a home for youth facing complex academic, social, and behavioral challenges, and now home to an alternative high school, the Maine Academy of Natural Sciences, has always used its farmland and forests for both educational and personal enrichment. On March 24, sugarhouses around the state will open their doors to celebrate Maine Maple Sunday, an annual tradition. The Maine Maple Producers Association website features a map listing the open sites. Most offer free samples and demonstrations, and many offer games, activities, sugarbush tours, music, and more.
