Digital History: Stories from Maine Memory Network

Historical Image: Benoit's Clothing Store Costume Party, 1928
MMN #48256
Attending any costume parties this week? Does your workplace get in on the Halloween fun?
Maine clothing retailer A. H. Benoit did back in 1928. This image, taken on October 30 at the Portland store, is well worth "zooming" into to see the range of characters (some less politically correct than others) and impressive attention to design and detail.

See if you can spot a chef, a matador, two brides, a pirate, two jesters, a cowboy, and a clown.

Important Announcement:

The book event, Old Tales of the Maine Woods, with author Steve Pinkham has been rescheduled from October 30 to February 5, 2013.

Book Event: Waltzing with Bracey
Speaker: Brenda Gilchrist

Author Brenda Gilchrist joins us to talk about her new memoir, Waltzing with Bracey: A Long Reach Home, about her journey back to Maine, and to the Deer Isle cottage of her ancestors, to claim her place in the world. Joining her on the adventure is Bracey, her Corgi, who helps her negotiate the rambling pile of a house, the ghosts that live there, and this unique place on the Maine coast.
